14 day luteal phase

From everything I've read and been told your luteal phase is the part of your cycle that should be consistent - 14 days.  How many people agree with this or see this pattern?  I finally entered my data from previous months on FF and now they are saying I've had 12, 15 and 16 day luteal phases. 
TTC since 7/08 SAIFW welcome! SA - normal HSG clear! DX - unexplained infertility 5 failed IUI's IVF #1 Jan. 2011 = BFP!

    I think anything between 12-16 days is ok.

    A luteal phase does not have to be 14 days, and it can vary from cycle to cycle.  I've found mine bounces in between 12 and 14 days.  Either way, the length of yours are pretty good.

    TTC #1 since 7/08 After 3 years, 2 losses, 3 rounds of IUI, and one round of IVF, we finally have our dream come true! DS born 7/30/11

    Everyone's LP is different. Did you recently come off BCPs? Those can affect them. I'm on cycle #4 off the pill and my first cycle my lp was 9 days, the second was 11 days and this last one was 15 days. 15 days is my normal off BCPs, so I'm thinking it'll stay that way. Other people's LPs can be normally 12 days. Like I said everyone is different.

    No this is cycle 8 for me.  I agree with what everyone has said, it's just frustrating to hear one thing and then realize it probably isn't true.  I was just curious.  I'm not too worried since mine are around that length of time, just curious what others thought!

    Also, I guess I was using the 14 day lp to predict when af should come.  When I looked at my charts I was sure I ovulated 14 days before af and I loved knowing at least when it would be here, (but hoping it wouldn't!)  Now FF is telling me different days I ovulated. 

     I'm not too concerned because either it happens or it doesn't, you know?  It doesn't really matter the month I hopefully get a BFP whether I ovulated on such and such a day...

    My shortest one was 8 which is not super healthy but it's only been once. My longest one was 16. My average is 13 days.  If you track your cycle long enough then you will get a pretty good average.  What they DO say about LPs is if your max days is 16 then if it's been 17 or 18 days chances are you are pregnant.  BUT you have to be tracking a while to figure it out. I've been charting for 24 cycles so I'm pretty darn sure that is I don't get AF by Friday I'm pregnant!

    My LP is usually between 12-13 days.  As long as there isn't a huge variance between your LP you should be ok.  Maybe you were more stressed with the 12 day LP?  Anyways, it's not a huge variance.

    Mine was NEVER 14 days. It was usually between 9 and 12.

    I think maybe your confused. Everyone "says" your supposed to O 14 days after your period. I've never heard anyone give a 14 day number for the luteal phase. Either way the 14 days is a myth. After enough cycles you'll find you have a pretty consistent average for your lp.

    I think it varies from month to month, but 12-16 days seems normal.
