Re: Please check my "what to pack in a hospital bag" list

  • I just thought of something else -  I'll also throw in my nursing pillow (I use My Brest Friend, which I prefer over Boppy)... maybe leave it in the car for DH to get if I need it.  I think last time I just used pillows.

  • You might want to toss in some face cleansing wipes, Ponds makes some.  Made me feel a lot better before I could get out of bed.

    It's getting close... yay!!!

  • Make sure you have a pen to fill out the birth certificate form and sign other things!  GL
  • Hair ties or rubber bands/headbands to hold back hair.

    Comfy nursing bra/sports bra

What about a massage roller for your back and muscles?

I would bring laptop, magazines and dvds too - I know that I Nest-ed while I was in the hospital!

  • Take your own pillow!
  • I also brought my own pads and underwear for after the first 24 hours and am so glad I did.
  • I brought some flip flops because they were good to wear around in the bathroom and shower. Especially in those first 24 hours post delivery, socks may or may not be ideal.  Of course, I was there in August. Your feet might get cold!
  • I never got to pack but hope you are including a toothbrush & toothpaste in the shower stuff! That and a hairbrush were the things people had to run out to get for me since I had nothing. I also appreciated a hat that someone brought me.

    Other things:

SD cards for the camera, tapes for the camcorder.

List of people for DH to call & their #s.

Are you going to use the hospital pump? Or bring your own (and then all the paraphenalia (sp?) for it).

Don't know about any labor stuff since I had a c/s but at the class I took, the instructor talked about an inflatable exercise ball to sit on and some other stuff for massages.

  • This is very helpful, thank you!

  • Music, lollipops, baby book if you need footprints, change for vending machine
  • If you're bringing the laptop, don't forget a power supply and a cable to connect the camera/camcorder to the laptop :)
  • I was happy that I brought my boppy pillow.

(FWIW, I took my own pj's & undies - but, I never used them... too messy...)

  • My friend told me you CAN have hard candy while in labor, like Jolly Ranchers...ask your OB!

If you have an ipod, that would be good too, a pillow from home (with a colored pillowcase), and maxi pads (so I'm told).  Oh, and granny panties, just for the occasion (my friends swear by this).

I got my advice from the GF's Guide...I definitely recommend it to help you prepare!  GL!

  • A nipple cream in addition to the breast pads?  I know my nipples were already dry and sore before birth.  Although many hospitals have the free samples, I brought mine along just in case.
