Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Started Cereal and Feel Bad

DS is not 6 mo yet, but he has taking 8 oz of BM ( I pump) every 2.5 hours. I started cerelal this week against by pedi's recommendation because my baby is big and hungry.

I feel bad that I am starting early, and I wonder if should have waited until DS is 6 months.....

Re: Started Cereal and Feel Bad

  • Did he like it?  I wouldn't feel bad if I were you.  My kid is only four months old and we are already starting solids.

  • 6 months is just a date on a calendar. ?You know your babe best and have done nothing wrong.

We were planning on waiting until 6 months, but ended up starting Lily at 5 1/2 months because she was showing some serious signs of being ready. ?

  • You don't have to continue with the cereal if you don't want to.  You can just not give it to him until he's 6 months.
  • My DS started introduction to cereal at about 4 months. ?He was not very interested, but he loved the spoon. ?He is almost 7 months now and until two weeks ago he did not really enjoy solids. ?Now he is eating half a cup at most sittings (crazy, seems so much, but I guess it is really not).

    ?

My pedi felt it was fine to give DS some rice cereal at about 5 months, 4 months if sitting unassisted. ?We started with one feeding of about a teaspoon total and moved to about 1 tablespoon once a day by around 6 months.?

  • We started cereal at 4 months really because DD was trying to mooch our food. Not all doctors agree that you need to wait until 6 months. between 4-6 months is fine. You have to judge by your child (which was my pedi's recommendation).
  • We started Michael at just over four months and he loved it! Don't feel bad - you'll know if he doesn't like it!
