1st Trimester

What is your profession ?

I was just wondering what type of jobs women on here have. Do you plan to stay out with your child?

I am a 2nd grade teacher. This is my 2nd year teaching, and it is wonderful 99% of the time. I just started my Master's in Reading Education. I would really like to stay home for at least 6mths but I haven't decided 100% on that yet :)

  • I am a 1st grade teacher. I will take about 8 weeks off when the baby gets here. I love teaching and I also love the early days and extra days off to spend time with the kids.

  • I am (was) a pharmaceutical sales rep.  It is a great job to have as a mom and I was with a company for about 7 years.  After being laid off when the company had a merger, I am staying home with my 2 year old and will think about going back once #2 is settled in!

  • I am a medical social worker. I will be out for 8 weeks with our baby and then have 1 or 2 days off during the week to be with the baby.  DH is working for my dad so the days that I work he will take the baby with him (small family business)
and the greatest of these is love......2/10/07 David Noah joined us 08/08/09 Proud BE mommy! Colbie Faith joined us 05/20/11!

  • I am an attorney and I will be taking 12 weeks off to stay with the little one.
  • I'm a medical student and will be a first year resident when I have the baby, which I'm pretty worried about. I'll probably get 6 weeks off. Just have to pray I'll be close to my mom so I can get lots of help.
  • I negotiate licensing contracts for a large hotel company.  I'll be heading back to work after maternity leave...unfortunately our lifestyle calls for 2 salaries.

  • I'm an Outreach Coordinator for a non-profit orginization. I'm also a makeup artist and freelance fashion designer and I'm hoping to quit my "adult" job after the baby comes and do my freelance work on the side.
  • I work at an apartment complex and it's just me and a really good friend of mine (my boss).  I am going to take at least a month off and bringing my baby to work is an option for me. :)
  • I own an Interior Design company with my best friend.  We work from home, so she is just going to cover my slack in the first few months while I am with the little one....and I will do the same for her when it's her turn :)

How fun. I almost went into Interior but couldnt give up fashion design. I wish I had those skills now though with designing the nursery. You should post pics of yours when it's done!!!

  • This is my first year teaching 6th Grade English and Social Studies.  I am two classes away from finishing my masters as well.  I am actually due on the first day of school next year so I will be taking the first 6 weeks of the school year off regardless of when the baby comes.  It will make for a lot of work to do over the summer to get a sub ready for the start of the year.  Wink

  • I'm a graphic designer. I currently work full time, but I'm in the process of figuring out the easiest way to freelance from home without too much of a hassle.

  • I'm a high school guidance counselor for NYC Dept. of Ed. I will be taking a year off and then returning in fall of 2010:) I am due Aug 30!
  • I am jealous of all your jobs.  I work retail, selling mobile phones for a big box electronics store, think blue and yellow.  I'm entitled to 12 weeks, will probably take all twelve and then go back to work full time, depending on the child care sitch.  Now I just have to figure out how to pump breastmilk in a store covered in security cameras.

Fashion design...how fun!  The two go hand in hand!!  I believe it's your fabrics and color schemes that come out first and inspire the whole next line of textiles we get to play with!! :)  As for the nursery my head spins with ideas....I can't wait!!!  I'm sure yours will be fabulous!!!!

  • I am a pharmacist...will take at least 8 weeks off when the baby's born then maybe I'll go back part-time for a while. My store is almost 40 min from my house so it's quite a commute and the stress of crazy customers can really take a toll on me so it might be good to cut back for a while. we'll see what happens b/c right now I am the pharmacy manager and I am not sure that the other pharmacist would want to take on the responsibility.

Thanks! I think i have TOO many ideas as well... I'm sure something will move me. I just really wish I could figure out how to re-cover chairs and couches and sweet stuff like that.

  • I am an ER nurse... I currently work 3 12 hour shifts a week, which is considered full time. I plan on becoming part time and working two days a week when the baby comes :)
  • I am a teacher.  We aren't really sure how long I will stay out of school yet.  Def. more than 12 weeks.  Probably closer to 6 months.
  • I'm a professional photographer (have my own business), so luckily I will have a multitude of time off once the little one arrives. The best thing about my profession is that I can book weddings/events/portraiture several months out and pick/choose what days I work - meaning I'm going to relish my time off this fall. :-)

  • I'm a criminal profiler for uncle sam. I'm probably going to take 6 wks off for FMLA. I'd love to stay home with the baby but unfortunately we are 2 paycheck household.
  • Special Ed. Teacher.  I'm requesting to take the 2009-2010 school year off next year.  I will return to teaching in the Fall of 2010 if the board approves my leave.
  • I am an attorney so we rely on my salary.  I wanted to be SAHM but don't think that's in the cards for us.  I have a lot of flexiblity though
