Anonymous Confession: FF's

Re: Anonymous Confession: FF's

  • "Other" -- I started out BF'ing DD and my milk never came in -- she lost a significant amount of weight, I was terrified and my pedi suggested we move on to formula.  I suppose this could still be considered a "choice" because I could have kept trying or done something to increase my supply, but I didn't even try.  I was a new mom, feeling vulnerable and really scared.

I highly doubt anyone will vote for "vanity" -- come on, we are all (for the most part) mature adults and that is just ridiculous.

  • Ahh....but people did vote for vanity...I just realized I have to create the N/a option each time so people can see the answers of those to whom it applies.
  • Yes, I stand corrected! And I am truly shocked by the percentage of responses in that category.

Ha!  That's funny.  You do realize with live in the United States?  The capitol of vanity and self centeredness.

Secrets of the Baby Whisperer says this is a legit reason to FF and that BFing will make your boobs be saggy pancakes.  And that book is pretty popular.

  • Other... I EBF'd until she was 5 weeks and had only gained 1lb., then we started supplementing.  My supply dipped when I went back to work (I discovered a little to late my pump was failing), and I did everything I could to get my supply back up, but it just didn't happen.  DD got at least SOME BM until she was 5 months or so...
  • I'm guessing you don't FF.

I get what you're saying, and I get the self-centered thing, like "Yeah, BF'ing is too time consuming, I don't want to always be the one to have to feed DC, or I want to be able to take whatever meds and drink whatever alcohol I feel like" But the shape of your boobs?  Aren't most people either screwed or not screwed in the boob department by the pregnancy itself?

  • "Other".  DS was losing weight and my supply went down the tubes.  Made it to 6 months though. :)
  • Other... what about those that never produce milk....
  • I voted for vanity, although my reasoning wasn't exactly that. I honestly just had no interest in BF. I understand that's what boobs are for, but for me they serve a purely sexual purpose. Completely selfish, I know.

That is what I read in Dr. Sears Baby Book.  Pregnancy ruined them not the milk.

  • Other....what about those with a 5 month old and a newborn?!?!?!  Haha Im just kidding....kinda....I mean really you try to nurse for the first time and have a 5 month old you also have to care for.  I just didn't have time to have DD#2 on the boob while Ill was trying to care for my other small baby.

  • Just to clarify, the poll was for those who CHOSE to FF, not those who had to due to supply issues.  I think some people may have read over that part too quickly.

Doesn't really apply, since it wasn't a "choice"  that's why I emphasized "chose" and said not b/c of supply or medical reasons.

No you don;t. That messes with the results. There is a thing at the bottom of the poll  that says view results, so you don't HAVE to vote.

  • My milk never came in.  No engorgement for me.  I waited and stressed and made myself sick over it.  I had extreme guilt which led me to pump continuously all day long for 2 measly ounces.  I tried every medication, oatmeal, beer, fenugreek..

The LCs had to stage an intervention because I refused to quit trying but honestly when your kid is losing weight because you cannot feed them you need to do what's best for the kid.  Breastfeeding was not an option for me.

And even if you don't breastfeed your boobs are still jacked up.

  • Other - it just wasn't something that I wanted to do. I saw how my Sister-in-Laws always had their baby stuck to their boob, no one ever got a chance to see their face or hold them because of that.

Oh and I also had a breast reduction and my doctor said it probably was best that I wasn't because I'd most likely get a lot of clogged ducts if my milk even came in and I tried to.
