Mothers Milk Tea

I also posted this on 0-6, so I apologize if anyone saw this over there.....Has anyone tried this or talked to their Dr. or Lac. Cons. about it?  I read about it in a book and was going to try it to see if it would help boost my supply.  I am going to check with my doctor, but I just wanted to see if anyone had experience with it, pros, cons, is it safe, etc.  Thanks!

Re: Mothers Milk Tea

  • I used it...my LC recommended it.  It is all herbal and I bought an organic version.  It kind of tastes like black licorice.  i found it at Giant in the natural/organic section.  They also sell it at health food stores.  I did not have any success...but nothing worked for me, not even a prescription.  I also did not have any side effects.  My LC also told me to eat oatmeal, take fenugreek.  HTH and GL!

  • It's good to add as something you drink regularly, but if you're *really* wanting to try to boost your supply, there are other things you might try first to get your supply really boosted. For example, it has fenugreek in it which is great for boosting supply, but the amount varies depending which brand you buy - if you get, try to find one with a higher fenugreek content since many have a minimal amount in comparison to if you just got some straight fenugreek. In general, teas are always going to be a more weak version of the herbs vs. if you get them straight to take, so that can be a good thing if you're tentative about trying something herbal.  I drank it regularly at first, but didn't love that licorice taste of it, so once I knew my supply was more established I stopped since I didn't love it. If you talk to a doc or LC, they'll definitely tell you that it's fine to try it to see if it helps - there's other stuff in there, too, that's helpful in general for your body after havign a baby. Good luck! If you don't get a ton of helpful replies, you could post this on the breastfeeding board, too - they have lots of helpful info. just know that you'll probably get a ton of replies telling you what you "should" do rather than maybe just answering your questions on experience with if and how well it worked and safety, etc:) So take it all with a grain of salt;)
  • When I was breastfeeding, I took Fenugreek and definitely noticed an increase in my supply.  I'm by no means a breastfeeding expert though - I only did it for about 3.5 months.

    Good luck!
