Target vs. Walmart

We haven't registered yet and I always assumed we'd register at Target (and BRU), but now I'm wondering about Walmart....have any of you registered at Walmart instead of Target?  I'm thinking if they're less expensive, why not register for necessities there....and I did see some cute things there.  Anyone know how their return policy compares w/ Target for baby stuff?  Thanks for the input!

Re: Target vs. Walmart

  • I think that if you are going to register (which is basically telling people what you want) you should go where you think your friends/family would shop. I might make them more inclined to buy off your registry if there are already going to be here, than say make a special trip to BRU.

I think Walmart has a very linent(sp?) return policy?

  • I'm not sure about the return policy, but I do know that Walmart is more accessable to people in my family. We only have a few target stores in my area.

BRU only does returns/exchanges w/a receipt! Meaning, if someone buys you something and you don't have an original or gift receipt, they won't give you store credit. They won't take it at all. I think that sucks.

  • I like target better, it seems that walmarts quality has gone way down (at least in my neck of the woods) The only thing that I will buy for baby at walmart is diapers and wipes, and a few gerber onesies!

  • I am going to register at Target. I prefer there baby items, but that doesnt mean I wont shop there.. But the big items, Crib, pack n play, stroller, etc are all from Target
  • just register at both - that way you'll get more discounts and coupons... register anywhere  YOU might shop for baby- b/c they'll start sending you stuff. You can tell family/friends just one place if you think it's easier for them.

i'm registered at Target, Walmart and BRU - and i probably am not even having a shower- i just did it so i have a list of what i still need, and to get the discounts, coupons, etc.

  • i like target better but walmart is closer for alot of family and friends

  • Nothing wrong with Walmart. I haven't registered yet, but it may very well be a place I'll pick. You want to be registered at places your family/friends shop, like pp said.

Target's return policy sucks. You have to have a receipt, and they get their panties in a wad if you don't have a good enough reason to bring the item back. Walmart, on the other hand, is a breeze. No receipt needed, and they take it back no matter what your reason is.

Walmart gets my vote based on that. Plus it is less expensive, and if people are concerned about getting quality items, well, most of the baby stuff that is sold in stores comes from China anyway, from BRU to Walmart. It's just how it is.

Good idea...thanks for the advice, I think we might just do that!

  • I am only registering at BRU. There are no Walmarts anywhere near me or my family, and Target hardly has anything in the store- I want to see things in person before I ask for them. Target's return policy is a POS too.

  • We registered at Walmart and Target.  Walmart is the polar opposite of Target when it comes to return policies.  Walmart will pretty much let you return anything and you don't even have to have a receipt.

  • I'll probably register at BRU and possibly WalMart - like others said, Walmart has a much better return policy.
  • I very, very rarely go to Walmart and I'm not sure of the return policy but one thing I know for sure, is at least the 3-4 Walmarts in the area, every time I go the return line is insanely long!! I tried to return something, stood in line for 15 mins without moving (there was at least 10 people in front of me) and deciding to just take the burn of 20 bucks than be tortured like that. Now everytime I go back, all times of day, I look at the line and it's ridiculous!! So check that out and weigh the worth of that before you make any decisions.....
  • i did not know BRU's return policy was so god awful!
  • I second this. Target return policy is beyond terrible. I stopped shopping there for this reason alone. If someone gets you something off of your registry but doesn't mark it off, you still can't return it.

I would go for Walmart since they have some of the same EXACT things that Target does and you can return everything with no problems.

  • Our Walmart doesn't have as good of a selection as Target (and Target online is endless!), so that was one of the driving factors for our decision.

  • i say target, simply because i cannot stand walmart

  • Walmart is disgusting and low-rent and I would never step foot in the place. *shuddering*
  • I understand walmart is close to just about everyone and therefore easy for people, but I can't stand the company.  Their business practices are unethical and their management style is against everything I believe in.  They are able to keep their prices so low because of their unethical practices.  Therefore, I would prefer to drive a little further and pay a little more at places like Target and BRU just so I didn't support them, but that's just my humble opinion.

  • If you receive an item from your registry and you want to return it to Target, and don't have a receipt for it, you can print out the Gift Purchase Log that is accessed throught you registry log in.  That works like an alternate receipt.  It is found on the kiosks at the store.

  • I registered at walmart, just based on the horror stories of targets return policy. As far as walmarts quality. Other then like blankets and clothing, they have the same brands for diapers, formula, some bottles. They have the some of the same brand for the solid feeding, and most of the toys. Of course your not going to have as big of a selection as bru, but its about the same as target. IMO target, doesn't have that many cute blankets and such. It is whatever you prefer. I would do a walk through of both stores, and see which one has the stuff you want, and keep in mind where your family/friends will shop!
