NBR: My mother has no tact...

and I have no control over my emotions.

In the past several years she brings up in conversation people that have died that she thinks we'd like to know about. For instance, when my parents picked us up at the airport after our honeymoon, she said, "Guess what happened!" in an excited way, then proceeded to tell us that a dear friend of ours had died in his sleep while we were on our honeymoon.

So she usually sends me emails to let me know who's died, and I can usually handle it. But this time I'm bawling uncontrollably because one of my favourite highschool teachers died.

She is a geriatric nurse, so death is something she's faced with on a daily basis, but geez, can she have less tact?!

Sorry, just venting through my tears.

Yeah, tell her to stop. My mom reads the obits, so she calls me and asks me if I know so-and-so because he is kinda my age. It's nice she can handle death so well, I guess as a nurse you have to.

That sucks. My mom did the same thing. I called her during our honeymoon just to say hi (she had been in a car accident the day we left) and she told me that one of our wedding guests had died the day before. We knew she had cancer and couldn't attend the wedding, but I was like, could you have waited until we got back? It's not like I could send a card from where I was.

Geez... she could at least make an effort to sound a little less excited about it. Sounds like she basically just likes to gossip and that happens to be her favorite topic.
