BFing moms...what do you eat?

I am STARVING all the time! I didn't eat this much while I was pregnant. I am trying not to put on weight, I do eat all the time, but I am looking for healthy suggestions...

TIA!

Re: BFing moms...what do you eat?

  • I add protein to everything - a hard boiled egg with my oatmeal, turkey slices with my veggie pocket, etc. I also eat cereal and rice milk (DS can't tolerate dairy) as my "treat" instead of cookies or snacks. Other things on hand are granola bars, 100 calorie packs, etc.
  • Loading the player...
  • Lots of fruit (apples, oranges, grapes, berries), yogurt (I LOVE the Yoplait Light ones especially the dessert flavors, so yummy!), veggies, things like Wheat Thins with those little cheese wedges or string cheese...stuff like that
  • I can't help you with the healthy part because my answer to your question is everything. I eat everything. I can't help it. If it's there, I almost always eat it. I'm hungry all the time. But then again, I'm feeding three of us instead of just two :-)

  • ignoring the brownie i just ate..... i try to eat fruit, veggies and protein.  turkey sandwiches on whole wheat bread for lunch,  hard boiled eggs as PP said are great too, oatmeal or cereal for breakfast.  Cheese sticks, granola bars, yogurt smoothie drinks are all easy to grab while i have a screaming baby that needs to eat and i am starving!
  • I am constantly starving, too! I eat all day long....

I'm not any help, though. I eat lots of ice cream, pizza, mexican, cookies, and chocolate. But, besides the junk food I like: garden burgers, fruit, yogurt covered almonds, whole wheat crackers & breads, cheese, and granola bars.

  • Just wanted to add that I eat nuts everyday...a mix of plain walnuts, almonds and craisins.  I like this because it`s fatty (good fats tho) and portable (I can eat this while I BF) and makes me thirsty so I drink more water...it also fills me up better than other snacks.

  • Yogurt, carrots and ranch or just carrots, salads, cheese and crackers, fruit, apple with PB
  • Reduced fat Wheat Thins are something I always have in the house :) YUM!
  • Whatever the hell I want. Big Smile
  • I eat oatmeal with pecans or cereal for breakfast, protein and greens for lunch, lots of beans!, milk, lots of veggie, some fruit.

We have cut out a lot of meat for health/economical reasons so that's why I eat so many beans. I eat a lot of greens too-lettuce, spinach, mustard greens. I actually haven't been as hungry as I thought I would be. For lunch I'm having chicken with a salad and probably a pear.

  • I agree with PP.  If you add protein to each snack, it really helps and sticks with you longer.  I keep a can of mixed nuts in my office at all times.  A handful really goes a long way.  The Planters South Beach Diet is my favorite blend.

I have eggs for breakfast every morning.  Others are cheese cubes/sticks, celery and/or baby carrots with hummus (very high in protein and good fiber), yogurt, granola bars, Nutri-Grain bars, reduced fat Wheat Thins, Triscuit thin crips, apples, pears, strawberries, grapes, bananas.

I usually pick a protein and carb together.

  • I just eat everything, all day long. A ton more than when I was pregnant.
