Injection Help- Injection noob here

I went to the Dr today and was given menopur.  The assistant was supposed to email me a link to a video with instructions.  I checked my inbox and my spam but it wasn't there.  There are vials with powder and saline, syringes and a biohazard bottle.  Should I wait until tomorrow because the office will open at 7:am?  The pharmacy wasn't helpful.  I used to give myself B12 injections daily and the Dr said it was similar on the stomach.

Re: Injection Help- Injection noob here

  • When I did menopur, I took 1ml of saline into syringe and then put it in the powder vial.  I then swirled it, pulled it back into the syringe, emptied the air/bubbles and injected into my tummy.  Sometimes I had to do two vials of powder...do you know your dosage??

If you google menopur injection instructions I think you can find a youtube video and instructions on a menopur website.

     Good luck!

  • Thanks!  I searched online a bit and didn't see anything official looking.  Hopefully I'll find the right link.  The prescription says 5 sol 75 UN, there are five doses worth.
  • When I first did Menopur I looked on youtube for help, they have a few good videos of people explaining how to do it. I did 1/2 ml of saline to 1 vile of powder for a few days during the week and then before the weekend RE upped my dose to 1/2 ml of saline to 2 viles of powder. You draw up the saline, then inject into powder, it disolves almost instantly, I always just roll it to make sure it mixes well, then draw up the medicine, make sure air bubbles are out of syringe, and I switch needles after that because after mixing it dulls the needle. I always put an ice pack on the area of my stomach that i am doing for about 1 whole min., then disenfect the area with alcohol, and let dry first. Then pinch skin in fatty area of the lower belly and hold pinch then inject slowly, take out needle, then realease pinch. Then if you use ice pack to numb area, RE says to let warm up, I usually put my shirt down right away and rub area for like 3-4 mins to let warm up a bit, he says it can't be cold for the medicine to absorb, he's ok with icing before injection but not after.

  • Here is the link to my RE which links to injection training.

     https://www.kpivf.com

Then click on the resources tab at the top of the screen, then click on injection training.  Then choose your med.

    Hopefully that helps.

  • Thank you all for the info!  The link was perfect.  I looked at the Gonal link.  The mixing needle scared and when I saw the other needle it felt better.
  • The sub-q shots are no problem, you'll be a pro in no time, now the IM shots, I'm soooo scared to have to do those once I start IVF.
