I don't know if this is just "the thing to do" or I just have a very fiesty DD. She is 9.5 months old and throws tantrums regularly. If I take something away she is not supposed to have, during diaper changes, changing clothes, if she is with DH and wants to be with me etc. She literally throws herself on the floor, thrusts her hips, arches her back, and screams. Does your LO do this?
How do you handle it?
Re: Let's talk tantrums...
Yup. Diaper changing, getting dressed, etc has become a nightmare. The best thing I can find to do is give Jonas a toy or something interesting to hold. It keeps him quiet long enough for me to scoop a new diaper under him :-)
See Katie's post below for an older baby...
I agree that even though it looks a lot like a tantrum, it really isn't at this age. Obviously our kids are just getting smarter and are trying to exert greater control over their lives, totally normal. They can't express themselves verbally to make us understand, so this is how they do it.
I just use a TON of distraction with Arlo when he gets like this and it works well most of the time and I try to replace objects I don't want him to play with with something that is OK (just another form of distraction, I guess!).
