So the TV mode on the canon rebel isn't

for viewing the pictures on TV?  I skipped over that section in the manual thinking I'd just read it if I ever needed to look at pics on our TV.  But I was just reading on flickr that it's a manual mode.  Has anyone shot in the TV mode before and do you like it better then AV?

  • It really depends on what you're trying to do.  AV controls aperture and then let's the shutter speed be whatever the camera thinks it needs for correct exposure.  On the flip side, TV controls the shutter speed and makes the aperture whatever it needs for correct exposure.  As with any manual settings you have to make sure the settings are reasonable and within the range of what your camera/lens can do.

  • I guess it's a good thing for me that what you said mostly made sense.  I'm very overwhelmed with my new camera and am missing the simplicity of my old point and shot.  But I know this camera has the potential to make beautiful photos so I'm determined to learn all it's features.  Mostly looking to shoot fantastic photos of my family!

  • It can be overwhelming at first.  Why are you shooting in AV?  Is there a reason you didn't want to use P at first?  You can actually look at the settings in P to get a feel for what the camera thinks you want and go from there.  With AV, you run the risk of the camera slowing the shutter down too much and making blurry images.  It also could (theoretically) cause blurry images if your Depth of Field is too far off your subject, but that depends on the lens and how wide your aperture is...
  • I've been trying AV and TV because every board I go to says it's best to shoot in manual and to use AV and TV.  I think I've got the hang of P in automatic but manual makes me sweat and i haven't managed to take a decent photo in manual.  It always comes out dark and blurry.
