Some of Ava's favorites--applesauce, any cut up fruit, yogurt, string cheese, graham crackers, turkey burgers, sweet potato fries--are what I consider typical toddler foods, but other than that she'll turn her nose up. She doesn't like beef, chicken tenders are a hit or miss, anything too bland is a no go. It seems that my picky eater just isn't into what I thought a toddler should want to eat. Some of her favorites include:
steamed broccoli (by far her favorite veggie)
cherry tomatoes
spaghetti squash
sauerkraut
hummus
cajun tilapia
split pea soup
black bean soup
annie's mac & cheese with veggies mixed in (not weird but it is our safe go to meal for her)
I never would have started her out on any of these foods, but thankfully we have turned a corner and I can now say that she is a pretty good eater. It was a challenge for sure. What are some of your DC's favorites, especially if it isn't typical toddler food?

Here are Katie's favorites that are weird:
She does do the typical foods as well, mac n cheese, chicken nuggets, sweet potato fries, cut up fruit, cheese, steamed veggies, grilled cheese, chicken and stars, etc. She prefers her food with a lot of flavor as well. We are very tempted to see if she enjoys spicy food, but I don't want to do that to her just yet. I think I am going to give her some blackened salmon this weeked to see if she likes it. Should be interesting.

what about tortellini or ravioli with sauce?
I haven't tried to give any to DS yet, but I just made meatball soup....homemade meatballs(you could use any kind of ground meat) that I simmered in beef stock (could use chicken or veggie) with some carrots. I will also add alphabet noodles.
steamed cauliflower
beans and rice

Nora has to have some spice in her food too or she won't eat it.
Her favs are:
Polenta with tomato sauce and parmesean
Cous cous with onion and sundried tomatoes
Progresso Vegetable Soup - she won't touch most veggies but eats everything in the soup
Spaghetti with any kind of sauce
Tacos with shredded beef
Stuffed chicken breasts with goat cheese and olives
Any kind of beef steak or roast - she eats way more than me when we have this
Baked potato with sour cream
Any type of curry....lentil, chicken, spinach
Hummus (this is her go-to food if all else fails)
...and she'd eat a whole jar of pickles if I let her
You have a good list going....
Here are a few I've tried that Jackson likes- some that surprised me!
~Jambalya
~Potato Peirogies (I saute mine on the stove)

~Beans and Rice
~Steamed Asparagus with Olive Oil and Garlic Salt, soo yummy!
~Tuna Salad
~Cranberries, Canned Light Pears, Any fruit
I'm curious how you guys let your kids eat this stuff.......do you feed them, put it on the highchair tray, or give them their own utensils?
Justin has gotten really picky on us lately and we are having lots of trouble figuring out stuff that he will eat. I've been giving him his own silverware to use but that doesn't solve anything.....if I just put it on the tray he throws it, or if I give him a container with food in it, he dumps it on the tray and just paints with it.
I don't know how to solve this!

Katie,
Depends on the food- she's uses her fingers and/or her utensils (and does pretty well though it did take some time) with some things, and some things I still opt to feed her myself, or at least help with the feeding. She's independent and pitches a major fit about this. On days that I am a patient mommy up for teaching her, I will give her a spoon for each hand so she can help, but on days that her attitude is less than becoming, I just set the food down on the kitchen table where she can see it but not reach it, walk away and let her have her fit. When she stops, I'll come back and she'll let me feed her. She gets the point. I'll also take food away if she's throwing it, which when I worked in preschools was a HUGE no no, but I do it with my own kid anyway... hope I'm not doing too much damage.
Piper's tried tons of stuff and it's anybody's guess what she'll like at any given moment. The only things she consistently eats are cheese pizza, gerber graduates chicken ravioli, and peas, so nothing exotic there. Oh, and she loves her "shake" (Kroger version of Boost).
