Would you pay to hold a daycare spot?

I am having a hard time finding daycare I really like. The centers are outrageous, like $1000-1300 a month. So I started looking into state licensed in home daycares and found a woman I really clicked with over email and the phone, who is 3 miles from my house. I am going to meet her on Tuesday and look at her home, she is rated as a 4 star facility (out of 5) by the state. She has 1 infant spot open but I would have to hold the spot at 1/2 the weekly rate, for about 12 weeks before I would need her. Would you do it if everything checked out? She is very well priced and well qualified.

  • yes, it is hard to find a good daycare!

  • Hmm...  That's a tough one.  I probably would if the price is in a better range for you.  In the long run it sounds like it would save you quite a bit.  Any chance since you're paying you'd be able to have your baby go there every once in a while for short periods of time in case you need a break while on maternity leave?  That might make it definitely worth it for me!

  • I would if its the only option!! I'm in the same boat and am looking for in-home daycare because the cheapest I've been able to find is $981/mo for three full-time days a week!! OUTRAGEOUS!

  • I would and did.  Like pp said, it's hard to find good daycare.
  • We just had to pay a deposit, that seems crazy, but that being said it is hard to find someone that you are comfortable with and what if you couldn't find someone else, so I probably would. Good Luck!
  • Totally agree with PP, I've been stressing about daycare and just finally got it together yesterday I think. We will have to pay a deposit of $200 which is equal to the weekly rate. In home was the way to go for me, one place that was a center wanted to charge me $1200, WTH?? This is cheaper, not the $600 I was hoping for but she's really great and SUPER close to home and work so it is what it is at this point, GL.
