Babies: 9 - 12 Months

NBR: Military nesties

DH has a cousin who's husband is in the Air Force. He's a higher ranking pilot guy who's never been to Iraq or Afghanistan -- until now. I guess he was doing a routine two-week tour in the Middle East, but instead of going home as expected he was sent to Afghanistan. The cousin has two little ones, and I want to send her a note letting her know we're thinking of her ... I'm just not sure what the right thing to say is. They don't live nearby. Your thoughts?

Re: NBR: Military nesties

  • My DH did 15 months in Baghdad... it was only going to be 12 and got extend back during the intial ext. in '07 "the surge" if you will.

A card would totally be appreciated... just let her and the kids know that you are thinking of them and that you will keep their daddy in your thoughts (prayers). It means the world to know people care.

  • I would probably get a card that says "Thinking of You" (Unless you already have one that's blank).  Then inside you can just write a short but sweet note saying "Just wanted to let you know that your family is in our thoughts (and prayers) while (her DH's name) is away.  If you need anything at all please give us a call."
  • My DH was in Iraq last year while I was pregnant (we found out the day before he left).  Anything you write in a card would be much appreciated.  However, for me, I lived 3 hours away from any family during his deployment, so a phone call would have been even more appreciated.  That would have definitely lifted my spirits on the tough days.  Also, you may want to ask for his address.  I know I was always thrilled when people thought not only of me here, but of him in Iraq.  He was always thrilled to recieve cards from my nieces and other family members (even if he didn't really know them well)
