Angel Tree: Gift for 10 year-old boy?

I pulled a name off the Angel Tree at Drews montessori & I'm stuck on a gift. I intentionally just pulled a name & didn't look & now I know why the kiddo was one of the few left on the tree.

I pulled a 10-year old boy & the card lists his pant/shirt size, which is great b/c I planned on buying him at least 2 outfits. Then for the gift he only put: Gamecube. Seriously? Nothing else? So I google Gamecube & Nintendo doesn't even make these things or the games anymore. I can get a used/refurbished system w/some games for around $100 (whatever...I don't mind spending it), but I feel silly doing so b/c I think its a waste of money! He'll have to hunt around for games b/c they don't make them anymore & it seems like such a waste. But, I feel compelled to buy the system for him b/c it's the only thing he put down.

Ideally, I'd like to spend $100 on both clothes and a fun gift/toys, but I don't know what else to get a 10 y/o boy. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would you just get him what he asked for & be done with it? What would you do? I'm so obsessive with these thing & I could use some help! Thanks!

  • It seems like he may just like any video game system an may just not have known of any other.... what about one of those hand held game devices.. not sure how much they are but I am pretty sure that he would love it just as much.?
  • Loading the player...
  • nintendo DS, it's a portable thing like the gameboy was....ooh, I just looked up the price on overstock.com and it's almost $230

they do have other hook up to the TV video games.

what about a remote control car?  I got a good one on amazon.com a few years back.

Just go to TRU and hang out in the  boys toy section and see where all the kdis go or judge for yourself what looks like fun.

  • Honestly, I hate that.  I know some people are generous, and I really try to be but when the kids put things so expensive it's really kind of unreasonable.  Last year the girl my friend got wanted that $300 buttercup pony?? Really?? doesn't somebody help make these up, maybe they should suggest a cheaper item.  That being said I probably wouldn't get the gamecube.  If you can afford it I might get a Gameboy or something similiar.  Otherwise maybe leggos.  Or go onto the Target or TRU website and see what they suggest for that age group.

  • AZ Erica: ?I am sorry ?but I completely disagree with you... why should he be different than any other 10 year old boy? ?It's like saying.. dream but only this big because your family is struggling. ?We are talking about children here ( many of whom have no concept of money and how much things are) not adults who should know better,
