NBR: pink eye--I would know I have it right?

Yesterday I tried using my contacts after a long time and this morning (yeah I can sleep in them, night and day ones) my eye was red, but didn't hurt.  I took out the lenses, but my eye is still red.  I am just worried about DD and of course with the holiday, a dr. is not going to be easy to get.  I would have some discharge or irritaion with pink eye right?  I only had it once and remember it being like something was in my eye and having lots of discharge.

The redness could be the fact I only got 5 hours sleep last night and the night before and so on and so on...

  • Is it just one eye?  Does it itch?  It might just be in the early stages of pink eye or some other problem.

  • If it is viral pink eye, you will have clear or white discharge.  If it is bacterial pink eye, you will have yellow or green discharge.  If you have it, your eye will feel like there is pressure on it and it will be irritating or itchy.  Make sure to wash your hands often and don't touch your eyes (just in case).  It will often be swollen as well.  The entire white part of the eye is usually pink as opposed to just being bloodshot.

  • Doesn't itch, seems to be more red in one eye.  Both eyes are a little red.

  • DSs daycare has 3 of 7 babies out with pink eye. They told us to look for crusty eyes when they wake up and red blood shot like eye whites. It would itch, but what you are discribing has happened to me when putting old contact or new in my eyes. Maybe a reaction from the solution. If it is just irritation it should go away in a few hours. I would think.

If you have it a doctor would not need to see you they will just call in a script. I called the pedi to ask about it since the changes are pretty high we will get it. They said they dont give advanced scripts but would have a nurse on call to call it in over the holiday.

  • Pink eye comes with unmistakable discharge.  I get red eyes when I wear my contacts too long.  It could be that??

  • That happens to me every now and then.  If there's no discharge, and it's not itchy or painful, it's probably just that you've overextended your contacts.  It actually just happened to me last week.  I just took my contacts out for a few days and used lots of saline drops and it went away.  I'm a bad contact wearer, and I sleep in mine too for longer than I should.
