Today I went for my 6 month check up. Everything was fine as usual except for one thing... My doctor will not give me a referral for another u/s. I had my first and only one at 16 weeks. He told us that he would schedule another one for 7 months. The baby is fine, but we want to know the sex.
His response is that since everything is okay they do not schedule another one... But you told me before that we would get another one at 7 months. I know having a healthy baby is important, but we want to know the sex for planning purposes. I have friends that have had more than one u/s during their pregnancy and they do not know why my dr will not give us another either.
I'm to the point where I am going to schedule an appointment with my local Womb with a View...but the cost is $125 for a basic 3D u/s with gender determination. I shouldn't have to go through this when my insurance covers the u/s.
What should I do?
Re: Really bummed...
If you OB does not see the U/S as medically needed then your ins. will not cover it.
If you are that dead set on finding out on your time table, then you are probably going to have to pay the money for it.
16 weeks seems too early to do the scans they need. Thats what my dr said when i had an ultrasound at 16 weeks and then again at 20.
talk to your dr again and tell him you want another ultrasoundto check the babies organs and sex. if he says no you can always switch drs.
my angel babies: 6/10 (chem. pg), 9/10 @ 10 weeks
That sucks and I'm sorry that you're disappointed... but my insurance (and I'm guessing yours as well) will only cover a "medically necessary" ultrasound. I doubt they would cover one just to find out the sex. And your doctor would be committing insurance fraud if he incorrectly coded it as medically necessary when it wasn't.
I guess I would go for the private u/s in your case?
My ob is in Darby - Dr. Norohna. When I had my u/s the baby crossed its legs so we could not see. The tech even tried moving me into other positions but the baby would not budge.
The little stinker...
I have a Dr. appt on Mon. and am hoping to find out the sex of the baby. We ran into the same problem. We were told the Dr. doesn't usually schedule one to determine sex, but we can request it. I called my ins. co. to double check that it would be covered. I had to give them the Procedure code and Diagnosis code. Ours said it would be covered, but every ins. company is different. I hope you find out!!
