2nd Trimester

Quad test came back...

that the baby is high for Downs.

*sigh*

I cried, of course. Then they told me I had to schedule a special Level 2 U/S and they are doing it on the 2nd. I'm going to go crazy by then, I'm certain.

Only good part is, maybe we'll know the sex a couple days before we expected to. Then again, if they don't/can't tell us then we have to wait again to have another U/S or the amnio if needed.

Please keep me in your thoughts, I know they have false-positives, but I am still so worried right now.

Thanks ladies.

  • You will be kept in my prayers. I know exactly how you feel, we had to wait two weeks to get ours done w/ DD and she came out perfect.  Thats why this time, I didn't do the darn test.  Its too TOUCHY
  • :: keeping you and baby in thoughts and prayers ::

Doesn't the quad test have a high percentage of false positives?

  • I know this has to be hard!! And I won't tell you not to worry, because you will anyway. Just remember that these tests are far from accurate, and they do have a high rate of false positives. After the u/s you will be more certain. Just hang in there girlie! I'll be praying for you and baby!
  •  A girlfriend of mine went through the same thing. They told her that her daughter had a 1 in 20 chance of downs and then she did the amnio and everything came back fine. Just be positive. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

  • i am sorry. just try to stay positive and wait for the more accurate tests.
  • we had a false positive with dd and she is perfect
  • What is high?  Did they say?  My NT came back 1 in 3 for a birth defect.  1 in 5 for downs.  There are a lot of things other than downs that the quad looks at, so it is not just that.   Because our odds were very high we had a CVS the following day to rule out chromo problems, then 5 weeks later had an anatomy scan, then 5 weeks later had a heart scan.  I go back at 28 weeks for a growth scan, thus far, thankfully, there are no problems.

Some practices consider it positive if it comes back higher than expected for your age, which can be like 1 in 250 depending on how old you are.  Nothing to get upset about, just something to follow up on.

  • I'm so sorry.  My thoughts are with you two.

I think they do have a high false positve rate though.  My cousin's came back high for downs, she had amnio and everything was fine.  My other cousin had hers come back high for spinabifida and again her baby was fine too.  Hopefully the same is true for you.

  • My screen came back positive, too.  My result was for open neural tube defects.  I had a level 2 u/s, and everything looks fine with both babies.  I tooko some comfort in the high rate of false positives.  And I cried a lot, too.  I hope everything's OK on the 2nd, I'm sure it will be :)
  • So sorry that you have to worry about this. I will keep you and baby in my thoughts and prayers... just hang tight and take care of yourself until the u/s!

  • You and your family are in my prayers!
  • I'm so sorry that you have to go through this, but remember that these are just ratios. Further testing will give you much more conclusive results- and even a 1/20 chance holds a low risk of Downs. I'm thinking of you.
  • You and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers!  Good luck on the 2nd, hopefully everything will be fine!
  • I can totally related - I go the call yesterday from the Dr and am waiting for the hospital to call and schecule it.  I'll have to drive 21/2 hours to have my u/s, consult with a genetic counselor and if needed an amnio.

I'll be saying a prayer for you and your baby everytime that I say one for my baby.
