Solids Question

I need some advice on which foods cause constipation. DS seems be constipated more since I started him on solids. He has had carrots, green beans, spinach, applesauce, banana's and pears. I know banana's for sure can cause constipation but what others can cause this?

TIA

Re: Solids Question

  • Are you giving water with a solid meal? This may be the reason.

  • Baby cereal in general can cause constipation - particularly rice cereal, so if you are doing that switch to oatmeal for a while.  The apples and bananas can cause constipation as well. Pears do the opposite.  So do peas and prunes.  Try those!

  • At the beginning it's easy for the immature digestive system to be all out of whack. ?So it was hard for me to pinpoint exactly which foods were the culprit with my daughter. ?

My tips are the same as already posted but are worth repeating. ?

    - Offer a sippy cup w/ water at each meal (they have to learn to use a sippy sooner or later, right? ?Just limit it to 2-4 oz).?

    - Beware of rice cereal. ?Crazy binding... ?barley is better but oatmeal seems to be the best.

    - My ped said that any fruit that starts with the letter P is good for constipation. ?Peaches, prunes, pears... ? ? ? Have a serving of these every day and hopefully the problems you're experiencing will balance out.??
