my old college roomate swore by this, apprently it's an indian remedy:
Boil water for tea. In a tea cup place any type of tea bag (if you like, if not omit, i suggest it), a little sugar (but not too much, no more than a spoon full) and a good teaspoon or as much as you can handle of ginger (either fresh or powder kind). It tastes awful..horrible... hence the tea bag and sugar but I swear it works everytime. I have been doing it for 10+ years now. ...I make my husband drink it whenever he gets a sore throat and he can't stand it but it works...It's something in that giner that tingles and when you wake up the next day you won't have a sore throat.
Re: sore throat and nothing seems to work
Ditto that. It'll help. I usually try to make it a little hotter than "warm" though. Just don't burn yourself!

Hope it works for you as well as it works for me.
