Onions for teething????

Has anyone heard of this? We have an in-home day care provider - she is a neighbor of ours and is a sweet older lady from Mexico. Yesterday, when I was picking up DD she was telling me how she gave all her children and grand children small onions to gnaw on when they were teething and it helped them. I thought this was completely weird. Anyone ever hear of this?

i would never do that! onions are a little harsh...

I wouldn't do it. My DD has enough tummy problems without giving her onions.
