I am seriously breaking down. One of my boys Mason has always spit up more than his twin Brody. Every week the nurse came and Brody would keep gaining more than Mason. They came home at the exact same weights.
We went for the 2 month old check up last Thursday and Mason was 8 even and Brody 9lbs10ozs. The doc diagnosed reflux and gave Rx for tagament 4 times a day and said add a tbsp of rice cereal to his bottles. After a long few days I got the right cereal and nipples for it to come out for Mason to drink. But this weekend including yesterday his reflux is worse. He always used to spit up more but rarely projectile and a lot at once just bunch of small amounts. Now he started projectile vomiting this weekend I am mean soaking me my hair my clothes, seemingly his whole bottle.
The boys have alway ate the same amount and at the same time. After two huge vomits yesterday I said I am done and I am not giving the RX any more, nor the Rice cereal and switched his nipples to a slower flow again. He has still spit up today but again nothing like this weekend. How is something that is supposed to help hurt? I have a callback from the doc/nurse today sometime to get some answers.
It breaks my heart as for some reason he is the only twin that cries actual tears and he crys when he spits that much and I end up crying.
The doctor did say at the appt I could do smaller amounts more frequently but how do you do that with twins and have time for anything else to do with them or what type of schedule would I do. I did lower for today him to 3 oz when he used to be on four, but I don't understand how to balance feeding him ever 2 (especially if he isn't crying for it early) and then the other every 3, and how would this work at night.
I am sooooo stressed and feel so guilty b/c of it bc I am frustrated not at him bc he certainly can't help it but clothing change after change and my body tired and just almost get frustrated and I am sure he can feel it.
Then I feel guilty for Brody b/c so much attention is devoted to Mason while he's feeding and holding him up to not spit and there is Brody laying the in Boppy.
This is so stressful, I know twins would be, but it's different expecting and experiencing it. Sorry for rambling but I don't think anybody else other than you guys would understand. I am pretty stressed right now,and feel helpless on what to do to help him.
Any thought's, help, kind words to cheer me up, or suggestions would be so so appreciated right now.
Re: Help me! I am at my wits end with reflux!!!!!!! Please help.
Ohhhhh sister...this is the story of our lives.
Little Jax weighs just over 8lbs and Brady is about 10lbs. Jax is the one with MAJOR reflux issues. He's actually been re-hospitalized once because of it, and just last week had a g-tube put in. I believe the actual diagnosis is called GERD (gastro-something reflux DISEASE). He's had ultrasounds, x-rays, scopes you name it....all comes back to stupid reflux. He gets actual attacks where it comes out his nose...just awful.
ANYWAY...we are told that this peaks out at 4 months (adjusted) and gets better from there...so we're waiting for spring...
He's on Reglan (empties the tummy quicker so when he vomits he doesn't lose all his food) and Prevacid, to make the reflux less painful.
My BIGGEST suggestion to you is to get him to a pediatric G.I. specialist IMMEDIATELY.
oh yeah...and I'm not allowed to feed Brady more than 3oz in one sitting. Just as frequent as he wants tho. He has reflux...but nothing like Jax.

My blog * We made the national news!
if it's that bad you should take them to see a Ped GI - they know much better how to deal with reflux. There are quite a few other meds out there that they can try if tagamet isn't working (I'm a prevacid rep and used to call on ped GI's... they see this stuff all day long).
hope it gets better!
BTW - another poster on here just recently asked the same thing you just did, and we told her to get to a G.I. specialist. They found immediately that the baby had a problem with his pyloric sphincter and had it fixed with a quick surgery.
You just never know...I'd call asap!
The nurse wants me to try to start the tagament back today and no rice to see if the rice made worse and call back tomorrow.
Sweater -he has it out of his nose to, and gasps for air, it breaks my heart.
so I should forgo the schedule and just let him eat whenever basically???? I am just so used to it b/c that is what they came home on from NICU. If this doesn't help I will def make an appt and then as for a specialist.
Reflux sucks and is so unfair for them.
My son has similar feeding issues. He has been on treatments for reflux (Zantac, Prevacid, rice cereal, thickened formuals) and nothing has helped at all. I finally took him to the GI past week and we found out that it probably isn't reflux at all, but rather gastroparesis--a disorder where his stomach empties much slower than normal. Allf of the thickened formuals and rice I was trying don't help this at all. He has to outgrow it and if he continues to lose weight he will have to start reglan.
So, long story short, I would definitely see a GI.
