Gift ideas for 2 yo girl?

Yup, it?s time to get my neighbor?s DD another gift. We?re not getting clothes, because they are ridiculously picky and critical of everything. For toys, it can?t be too pink or princessy (mom is a PHB about girly things?refused to let the kid wear a princess outfit for Halloween so they did nothing instead.)

The dad is an OCD clean freak, doesn?t want any more toys and doesn?t let her play with a lot of the toys she does have?only one or two at a time. (Seriously, you ask the poor DD ?What happens when daddy comes home?? She says, ?no more!?)

For her bday in October, we said screw it and got her the Crayola easel with dry erase markers, color wonder stuff, fingerpaints, magnetic letters and numbers, etc. Her dad just about had an aneurism but the mom made them keep it and the kid plays with it every day.

So, what to get for xmas? We?re looking to spend $50-$75. He mom wanted to get her a play kitchen, but the dad said no because they don?t have room (we live in townhomes). I don?t want to get something too big, but everything else I see in that price range is really pink and girly. Any ?it? toys? She?s into Elmo, cookies and art stuff. I?m thinking the Elmo live, but I don?t see paying $60 for a doll, either.

Ugh. I hate shopping. I am sooo glad my side of the family doesn?t celebrate xmas! I?d go nuts!

PS: our neighbors are actually quite nice, they're just a little insane about a lot of things.

  • How about a tricycle?  There is a a fold up one that I saw at Target for $49.99.  It is pink and purple, but I think there was a red and yellow one too.  TRU has a few to choose from and in the price range you want to spend.

  • Does she have any dolls yet?  DD loves her dolls.  She would spend all day playing with them if she could.  (Okay, sometimes she does.)  I'd probably go with a doll, a doll stroller, and maybe a cradle.

DD also loves play doh, but that sound kind of messy for that family.  I also have a dollhouse on DD's Christmas list along with the accessories.  She loves Dora, so anything Dora related is great.  She also wants a camera (tries to steal mine all the time); I have the Fisher Price Kids Tough camera on our list.

Here's our amazon wish list if that might help.

That's a really good idea too.  I think we'll end up doing that for DD's birthday since it's in the spring.  We don't do a lot of bike riding here in the winter.

  • Ooh, a camera might be a cool idea. I don?t know how the mom would feel about the dolls. I did think of a little people set, but the dad would have a fit (too many pieces). And yeah, the evil streak in me did think play doh hehehe.
