I recieved an offer last week contingent on the company getting awarded the contract that I would be the project mgr for. I feel really good about how I did in the interview, etc. This is just new to me, I have never had a contingent offer. The company says they feel confident in the bid, etc, but if there is no contract, there is no job. It is for several years, and they have other contracts with the customer.
Thoughts? I felt so good about it last week, but now I am getting bummed. They will know before Christmas.
I am still applying for other jobs, etc in the meantime, but this is such a good company with GREAT salary. Also - I signed the offer, so am I doing something wrong by submitting my resume to other companies?
It just feels too good to be true, ya know?
Re: Contingent offer?
I'm afraid that contingent offers may become more common place in today's economy. They know that they want you but they are still in limbo as to whether or not they have a position for you. I think I would prefer a contingent offer than for them to hire me, have me turn down other jobs, and then have them figure out they don't have a position for me and let me go!
Christmas is only a month (!) away. There is nothing wrong with applying for other jobs in the meantime, going for interviews, etc. However, due to the fact that you have signed the offer, you are obligated to take the job should it be available. So, go for job interviews, and if someone calls you, request that you be given some time to think about it. Let them know that you will get back to them after Christmas. If the contingent offer falls through, you have a job. If it doesn't, you have a job.
HTH!
"God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it" 1 Corinthians 10:13I work for a defense contractor and our recruiters extend contingent offers all the time. Signing the letter gets you on the hook but doesn't commit you to anything. You can always rescend your acceptance at any time - you aren't an employee yet after all.
I would recommend looking for other positions b/c you never know if the company will win the bid or not. I hope this comes through for you - you sound excited about it!
Good luck!
