I really want to start using CD's but DH is hesitant and we both have a question.
When you change DC, how does the whole process work with getting rid of the dirty one? We change DD on the changing table, fold up the wipes in the dirty diaper and toss it into the diaper champ. I can see how easily you can toss a wet diaper into a wetpail, but what do you do when you have a poopy diaper? I can't leave DD on the changing table while I go dump poop in the toilet so would I just leave the diaper off to the side until she's all changed, put her down in her bouncy and then deal with the diaper? This concern/ dilemma is what's causing the hangup on DH's end, I think, and I'm really curious, too. It seems like it would be a hassle compared to disposables, but maybe I'm wrong.
DD has to have oatmeal in her bottles due to reflux. She doesn't poop every day, but when she does, it's not all nice like it was before we added the cereal. I don't think I can throw it in the wash, but even if I could for now, how do you handle this when you HAVE to dump the poop? TIA! ![]()
Re: CD question- logistics
We change on the floor, which eliminates the concern about leaving her on the changing table.
Due to the peanut butter-like consistency of DD's poo, we spray it into the toilet using a diaper sprayer. Usually we toss them on the floor of the bathroom until we have a minute to spray, and go about our day. We usually end up spraying any and all poopy diapers after DD goes to bed.
We use cloth wipes, so the dirty diaper and wipes both go into the pail. Now that she's on solids and we're durmping poo in the toilet, I just set the diaper aside until DD is changed and then set her down on the floor in her room with toys. The bathroom is right next to her room and I dump the poo in there. It sounds like more work (and it probably is a little bit!), but I really don't find it to be a big deal once you figure out a system.
Ditto pp; some use flushable liners to contain some of the mess. There are also diaper sprayers available that you can install. I've also used just a plastic knife to scrape solids into the toilet if it is a really messy one.
I put the poop diaper aside and put a new diaper on DS, take him off of the changing table and get him settle with toys and then deal with the dirty diaper. I have to put DS down to wash my hands, so he just has to hang out for a little longer while I take care of the diaper.
DS is in the peanut butter poop stage, so I use toilet paper to try to get as much poop off of the diaper and into the toilet. I may have to escalate my efforts and start using a spatula as others have recommended.
Unless it was breastfeed poop, I advise against putting a poop loaded diaper into the laundry. There was a post on here a few months back about residue in a washer from poop.
