Babies: 9 - 12 Months

mac and cheese

I see a lot of posts re: babies loving mac and cheese...do you give it to them whole (as in the full noodles), process it or the gerber mac and cheese....any concern with the whole dairy thing?

Re: mac and cheese

  • Joseph had the Gerber m&c exactly once. It was NOT a success. I'm not surprised. It tasted like Elmer's glue.

When I started him, I cut a noodle into three or four pieces, or I used pastina or acine de pepe instead of elbows.

Now? He'll eat an elk. And I mean that. He had a bite of elkburger yesterday.

  • Wow Elk....that's impressive!

My brother wants to give Kaylee McDonalds Sausage....which I still debate what type of meat is in it.

  • I make Elijah's mac n cheese and use kitchen shears to cut everything in the bowl.  I've been having difficulty getting him to eat veggies, so I made him butternut squash mac n cheese earlier this week.  I pureed the squash and added it the cheese sauce.  It made it taste awesome, way better than plain mnc.  I thought I was being so creative, but when I googled it, apparently lots of other people were just as creative.  Also, I add chicken or hamburger bits for protein.  Oh, and when I'm making the cheese sauce (I do this for any cheese sauce, it makes alfredo taste incredible) I also add cream cheese.  You really have to whisk it to get it to mix, so I do this before I add the shredded cheddar.  It's a lot of dairy, cream, cream cheese, cheddar.  DS does ok with it though, I would say as long as you've started dairy, you're probably good to go.
