Yeast Diaper Rash

Scarlett developed a yeast rash today.  I *just* washed all of her diapers yesterday, so do I assume that the yeast was present before the wash and rewash everything?

If yes, do I do anything special in the wash? Bleach or anything?

She has BG pockets and fitteds.

Re: Yeast Diaper Rash

  • I know it's not EF, but I bleach. yeast is such a complete and total PITA to make sure you've *really* gotten out of diapers and that it isn't causing recurring rashes that I just haven't had the patience to test other options when I know that bleach works. There are definitely EF options that you can try - vinegar, tea tree oil, grapefruit seed extract, genetian violet are some that I know I've seen suggested.

  • I used grapefruit seed extract...50 drops in the rinse cycle...it's what my naturopath recommended.  She said that GSE is VERY good for killing yeast.  You can even continue to use it in the rinse every time as a preventative measure in the future.
  • Hey - what is a naturopath?  I used GSE in the pre-soak, and we haven't had any recurring yeast rash.
  • a naturopathic doctor uses natural remedies to aid the body in healing itself.
  • DD got a really bad rash this summer from her diapers.  Ever since then I wash her BGs with 1/4 cup bleach in the hot wash cycle once a month or so.  I actually just did them yesterday.
