Yeah - they're not good because they suspend your child from the crotch rather than in a seated position with his/her weight on their rear. This can cause all kinds of problems including spinal developement issues and hip pain, etc.
I also wish you could find a good alternative to the bijorn style carriers at regular stores.

How is carrying in the Bjorn different for the baby than carrying in the Moby? I'm just curious because it seems like for rear-facing or forward-facing, the support is in the crotch for either one.

The only wrap hold that I know of that puts the weight straight down on the crotch is the front - forward face hold (what Moby calls the Lotus hold) and in that hold, there is no difference. Forward facing on the front isn't a really great hold anyways because in my experience it's not really feasable for older babies/toddlers and it's generally not recommended for very young babies because they can't get away from the overstimulation by turning their heads away/ etc.
If you look on Moby's site just for a couple examples the Kangaroo hold, the Hip Hold and the Hike Hold all create a kind of seat so their weight rests more naturally (and comfortably) on their rear rather than so that they're hanging by their crotch.

I go to a babywearing group in Marietta. You may want to come one time and try on a bunch of carriers. The dates are a bit screwy with the holidays, but I'll find out when the next one is for you!
ditto on the amazon registry! They used to be affiliated with BRU too??? I think my registry came up on there???
I put dd in the bjorn until she was 14 months old (I was 3 months pregnant and had to stop). I loved it. dd had no problems with it. she walks and runs just fine.... I actually put her in it on the way home from a park last summer ( 2yr 4 months old, end of May)... she was tired, only wanted me... ds had been in it.. passed him off to MIL and put her in the carrier for the long hike. she fell asleep in it. lol. That being said... the front and back features of some of the newer carriers are really nice! If I had known or had the option with dd, I probably would have registered for one of them.. as it was, I didn't register for the bjorn... colleagues of mine bought it for me. And it's been used well! I don't use it much anymore... my kids go in a phil & ted stroller now (which if you plan on having babies close in age, I'd so recommend this stroller... it can be single or double! and it moves better than my old single. SO NICE!!!).
Re: baby bjorn is not good, right?

no! not good at all. They're really bad for your back...and they're very hard on DC's hips and back as well.
Try the baby wearer website or DS, you may be able to find one used for cheaper!
