Need help!

I EBF, and I am returning to work in 3 weeks. ?DH and I gave DS a bottle at 3 weeks, and DS took it fine. ?We've given him a few bottles since, but not in a few weeks. ?Now DS won't take the bottle at all! He screams and screams and refuses to take it. ?We are so worried he's not going to eat when I go back to work, what should we do??? I realize now that we should have been giving him a bottle every few days....we just got so busy and forgot to....

?DH is trying again this morning to give DS a bottle ?and I can hear him screaming in protest!! ?Help!

Have you tried different types of bottles or nipples?  Sometimes babies will take one type but not another.  I've known several babies who refused one type of bottle/ nipple but immediately took to another type.  I know it can be really hard, and my only advice is to keep trying.  Eventually he'll figure it out and it WILL get better.  Good luck.

Agree with PP to try different bottles or nipples.

You may also have to leave.  If he knows you're there, he might refuse because he can get the real deal.  Time to go shopping!

Also, once you start with the bottle, you might want to think about doing one a day, not every few days.  Keeps him used to it, and lets DH in on the fun, too.

before I saw your ticker, I was like...oh, let me guess 3 months old???  we went through the same thing & I was so worried she would starve all day & then only want to BF at night!  yikes.

- different bottle, nipples, make it warmer & you should leave the house!   out little "bottle strike" went on for about 2 weeks & then she got over it.  GL!

Thanks for the advice ladies! We'll try different nipples, etc and I'll start my x-mas shopping this week I feel better now....

Ditto PP - different bottles/nipples.  Also, make sure the BM is not cold.  Try to be consistent with the times too.

Billy did this the week before I went back to work - we tried everything.  His first two days at daycare from 8:00 - 5:30 pm he drank 4 ozs in total.  I was a wreck and thought I was going to have to quit my job but by the end of the week he figured it out and we never had bottle issues again.  So my advice is to keep trying but don't stress too much - your baby will not starve themself and when they realize they have to take the bottle they will.  Hugs - I know how stressful this is!
