Frick. Looks like we're going to urgent care.

I didn't take DD to the pedi yesterday (Friday) because her possibly-MRSA bump in her diaper area seemed to be responding to warm compresses, and I don't want to overdo it with the hardcore antibiotics if we don't have to (I'm paranoid that she'll get immune to them and then it will be that much harder to treat it every time she gets it, which seems to be every few months).

Now it looks like a little pimple-thing on her abdomen is getting infected, too, and it has a red area bigger than a golf ball around it.  I don't know if it's MRSA, too, but I don't want to mess around with it anymore, so as soon as she wakes up, I'm taking her to urgent care.  Hopefully they'll give us the Bactrim and let us go without saying they want to lance the boil (over my dead body--her pedi even said that's the last place you want them cutting).

My poor little girl.  I keep putting warm washcloths in her diaper, and she puckers up and cries so hard, and tells me, "She doesn't yike that, Mommeeee!"  It breaks my heart!

  • ! Oh no! I'm so sorry. That's so sad.?
  • Wow-poor girl, and poor mommy!  I'd be freaking out.  I really hope they don't try to lance it.  How friggin painful!!!

  • I'd definitely take her.I really wouldn't want them lancing it, either! I'm not a huge fan of antibiotics either, but sometimes they're really necessary. My grandfather's MRSA turned into a few days in the hospital, so it's definitely worth a trip to urgent care. Good luck!

  • My brother got MRSA in the navy and had an infection on his elbow that was so bad they said if he would have waited any longer to go the hospital they may have had to amputate. He had to go through two big surgeries on it. MRSA is serious stuff, I feel so bad for her, what she said almost made me cry!
  • Did she have MRSA before? This may be dumb but how do you get MRSA? I refuse to use google cause that scares the crap out of me lol.
  • Oh no, I am so sorry.  For both of you.

I read your last post, but couldn't respond at the time.

    I'm sorry, C.  :(

Yeah, this is the 4th time.  If you look in the post above where I was paged, another poster gave some good basic info about it.  Basically, it's a common virus that can infect any open sore/wound, but if someone in your family had it, you'd know--they turn into big, ugly boils that hurt like a beyotch, so it's not like you could confuse it with any old mosquito bite or anything. =)

  • I'm posting really late so hopefully you'll see this. ?I think I've told you my DD had MRSA and was in the hospital last Dec for a week with MRSA. ?Thankfully she hasn't had another incident again. ?I think what keeps us from having repeats is that we use this antibacterial soap for her every time she gets a bath. ?Its called?Cetaphil Antibacterial Gentle Cleansing Bar For Dry Sensitive Skin. ?You can buy it at any store. ?Her doctor suggested it and it works really well.

    ?

I hope everything turns out okay. ?Good luck!?

  • I'm sorry you all are dealing with this.  My dad had MRSA.

I hope you get answers at UC.

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to ask the pharmacist about disinfecting body soaps--someone else on here recommended a couple of different brands, but I like the idea of something for sensitive skin, b/c that's definitely DD!  I'm glad your DD hasn't had it again, and I hope your MRSA-free streak continues. Thanks again!
