do you need a train table

I'be been looking at train tables but they are $$. Could I juts buy th etracks and trains and set it up on the floor in the basement. Or cover an old cover table in a few layers of sheets. I worry we'll spend a ton of money on tracks, trains and a table and he'll be doen with trains within the year. He'll be 2 next month

Re: do you need a train table

  • We had trains when we were little and never had a special table.  DS has a small track and 2 trains now that we just set up on their little toddler table, but most of the time he pulls it into the floor to play with it!

If you really felt like you "needed" a table there is a super cheap one at JCP.

  • We have a small house, and there's just no room for a train table. ?Evan enjoys setting up his tracks all over the living room. ?He likes to make "tunnels" under chairs and other furniture, and if he wants to move them up, he'll put them on the coffee table. ?When he's done, they go into a basket out of sight. ?So I'd say, no, you don't need a table. ?And if you do get one, don't glue the tracks down. ?I think it's so much better for their imaginations to be able to build the tracks in different ways. ?Evan is almost 3 and nowhere near being done with trains.

  • We have ours in a bucket.  I set it up for DD to play with about 1X per week, since we don't have a seperate playroom.  Otherwise, I would probably just leave it up on the floor.  I don't think you need a train table, unless it is your sons super favorite toy.  DD's favorite toys are rocks, sticks, and leaves at 2.5, so I would not waste a lot of money and space on a train table.
  • I do not think a table is necessary at all! Playing on the floor is just fine, and they have mats that have tracks on them. We are getting a train table for DS, but it's also a activity table so that he can sit at it and color, finger paint, whatever. But, again, he doesn't NEED an activity table either

I do know that IKEA has train tables for like 20.00 if I remember correctly.
