Just found out a friend of mine who is pregnant with her first is naming her son after both her father and her DH's fahter.
The problem? They are all VERY Greek Orthodox.
The child's name = Ignatious Haramblos Verygreeklastname.
They'll call him Theo for short.
Re: what is WRONG with people? another bad name!
WOW..what a name for a baby..
I like Theo though...I want a boy named Theodore..but that wont happen.
Theo? Where are they getting Theo?
I was wondering the same thing. Seems like an awful long name for a little kid.
Exactly what I was thinking! ??
I have no idea where Theo comes from ... maybe Ignatious in Greek = Theodore?
That poor kid. You'd think they'd spread the naming love around instead of saddling that child with all that ...
The poor child is going to be in high school before he learns how to spell that name.
Well I wouldn't knock on such kinds of names just based on the sound of them because they are part of their culture.
But I have to admit that living here you have to make exceptions. I wanted something that could be easily pronounced by both english and spanish speakers. Turns out it is now the name of the model of a car in Colombia...oh well the kid will be living here.
Soon to celebrate the day we met, even if the day before marks when we said goodbye.
As to how Theo could come from that...My DH's name is Louis John August LastnamestartswithW IV. He goes by Zack.
Story is, mom wanted to name him zack, dad wanted him to have the hereditary family name, so they compromised, named him that name, and called him Zack.
FYI, had this baby been a boy, he'd most like have been #5
long name for sure, but i really can't fault anyone for using family names.
not sure where they got theo from, but i guess it's possible they just like theo and picked it as his common name. i've heard of jrs, IIIs, IVs, etc. having their legal name and then a common or nickname that is just a name the parents liked. probably something the kid would have been named had they not wanted or felt obligated to choose a family name.
OMG, that is hilarious!
it would be different if they weren't Greek and just thought it sounded cool or picked something from so far back in the family that it wasn't even a name that you'd find Greek people with anymore. But if both sides are Greek it's perfectly reasonable for the kid to have a Greek name and really, Ignatius isn't all the uncommon.
and coming from someone that has a distinct and long last name, it really isn't a big deal for a child to learn a long name and he will probably end up being a really good speller!
oh wow! LOL!
Just smile and nod
