Pregnant after a Loss

Progesterone/BFP/Spotting question

Hi Ladies...AF was due last sat and this AM I got a very faint BFP. However, i've been spotting since last Friday (very light, almost gone now). My dr had prescribed Prochieve progesterone to use next cycle...i had expressed concern about my short LP. Would you start using it now? Just in case? Is it effective after you have gotten a BFP?

Re: Progesterone/BFP/Spotting question

  • I was prescribed Prometrium after I had very low progesterone beta results. That said, I am not sure about the Prochieve progesterone, I would recommnd calling your doctor just to be on the safe side.

  • It's my understanding that there is some controversy as to whether taking Progesterone actually does anything. My doctor put me on suppositories 2x a day after my second Betas came back with slightly low Progesterone (at around 4 weeks). I stayed on it til 11 weeks. Whether it worked or my body was going to kick up my Progesterone production on it's own anyway...we'll never know. I also did the same thing once before in a pregnancy that ended at 5 weeks. So I don't think it's sure fire, nor will it prolong the inevitable if it's not viable. At least that was my experience. But my feeling and my doctor's is that it doesn't hurt to try.

You should call ask your doctor this morning and ask.

  • I spotted several days before I got my BFP.  My doc started me on progesterone after my levels came back low.  I would call your doc and see what they want you to do.  Congrats and GL!
  • Yes, call and see. I too waited before calling the doctor about my bfp and they immediately told me to re-start taking the progesterone. I have not had any spotting and everything is going well.
  • I spotted a little before I got my bfp but it was just a little...

I started taking progesterone when I found out since I had previous loss due to low progesterone.  I took it my entire first trimester twice a day.
