Need some family picture ideas please!!!!!

Yes, the number of exclamation points does mean I need ideas more than usual!

We need a group pic for one of the photos in our Christmas card.  Don't like Sears/Target sitting pictures (blah), but we're doing a professional photographer out and about until Benjamin is older.

So, how do we get a family picture without it being done in a studio or outside with a photographer?

And, what should we wear?  If we're inside, which is my preference with a 4 month old, should we all match or just wear whatever?  Any theme?  I know MelandJeff did the white shirt with jeans and bare feet and that sounds nice....

I really, really need help with this.

Thanks.

Re: Need some family picture ideas please!!!!!

  • When I need inspiration for pictures, I usually check out some online photo card/announcement sites.  I am usually able to get some good ideas there on which direction I should go in.

  • In front of a fire place or christmas tree. Wear blues and reds. Dark colors look nice during the wintertime.  We are going to sit in front of our Christmas tree. It is personal because it is our tree. Good Luck

  • We are going to try to dress in the same color family (might be white for me, blue for boys) and get a pic in front of our fireplace at Thanksgiving. I just got a new wreath to go over it, so that is actually already up, and i might do a little more decorating on the mantel before. Then order a card, probably from Tiny Prints.  If that does not work out well, I have an appt for just J at the Picture People and will probably just order their christmas cards to make it easy.  They have gotten some good pics in the past. Last year I chased him around for days to get a pic I liked and it was a pain (but the end result was great! J was pretty much body surfing on a christmas present in front of the tree).
  • I would go with coordinating, not matching, unless it is very simple.  I would try for outside or at least not in your house.  A museum or office building could be a cool indoor location or something like a botanical garden, ours has a big inside area.
  • Aside from what others have said...a picture on your front door step (with a pretty holiday wreath on your door?) or on your couch (move it if you have to).

    As for clothing, I don't think you all have to match, but definitely coordinate.  Find the boys a nice outfits and then you and dh wear solid colored shirts/sweaters that coordinate.

  • If you want, I can forward you the email my photog sent us about what to wear for pictures.  It was pretty cool and informative.  {it might be later today because we are getting ready for gymboree}

    I like joseys idea of in front of the front door, btw.
