Anyone did IUI AFTER ovulation?

My doc's office screwed up, they thought I had a cycst on Monday, cancelled IUI because no mature follicle.  Today I repeated u/s and it was a follicle that already ruptured, meaning I ovulated yesterday or today.

The doc still wants to do IUI tomorrow morning.  Isn't it too late?  I'm thinking of cancelling, doesn't make sense.  I'm so upset right now.  He says the egg can survive up to 72 hours but I read everywhere it can survive only 24 hours!

I married my best friend 6/24/07. Started TTC. Ectopic pregnancy found at 6 wks 5 d.(methotrexate shot on 11/21/07). 1st IUI (natural/August '09) - bfn; 2nd IUI (w/ gonal-f) - bfn 3rd IUI (w/ gonal-f) - bfn 4th IUI - cancelled due to too many follicles Laparoscopy 1/10 - endo found 5th IUI (w/ follistism) - bfn 6th IUI (w/ follistism) - bfn Taking a break b/f starting ivf June - IVF - failed December - IFV#2 - failed Trying naturally again for now

Re: Anyone did IUI AFTER ovulation?

  • No, and I wouldn't do an IUI that far after ovulation.  I am so sorry they missed your ovulation!  :(
After 2 years and 6 IUIs, we did it with IVF w/ ICSI!
    BFP with no treatment!

  • I think we accidently did ours after ovulation... BFN.

Honestly I'm shocked that an RE says an egg can live for 72 hours. I've always read 12, maybe 24. The egg starts to deteriorate! I would even think about finding a new doc. I would cancel. GL.

  • I would only do it if he did it for free! I am sorry that you have to deal with this. That is upsetting. Keep us posted!?

  • Oh I am SO sorry and can completely understand how upset you must be! We're all going through enough with IF and to waste an entire cycle and have to start all over again just adds insult to injury.

Try to tell yourself that everything happens for a reason. For whatever reason you weren't supposed to get pg this cycle. Will be praying for the next one for you!

  • With my BFP cycle, the doctor performed the IUI after ovulation.  Based on symptoms and the look of the empty follicle, I ovulated at about 3am the same morning they did the IUI (IUI was around 9:30am).  I just knew it wouldn't work....to my surprise it did.  My doctor told me that it can be helpful to have the egg waiting for the sperm.  However, I think there is too much time between your ovulation and doing the IUI tomorrow.  Why didn't they do the IUI this morning?
