Pregnant after a Loss

MTHFR/lovenox/p4 questions

I just got my BFP this morning after 3 losses and a confirmed Dx of compound hetero i've trying to figure out when all this should start, my doctor doesn't beleieve i should be on P4 at all i'm seeing her for a consult on friday to discuss this i'm thinking i should if anything for peace of mind.

As for the lovenox the high risk OB said to start it at 6 weeks, but my last loss was at 6wks due to trisomy 16, so shouldn't i start it sooner? i'm still confused and learning about MTHFR but any help on when to start both of these would be a really great help!

Re: MTHFR/lovenox/p4 questions

  • Well, neither Lovenox nor P4 would prevent a loss due to Trisomy 16.

That said, I DO think you should start it sooner than 6 weeks. Both of my losses were prior to 6 weeks and I started Heparin at 4-ish weeks (4 weeks based on my o-date, but it was really like 4 weeks 3 days or something)..

Are you taking baby aspirin as well? I took that until I could start the heparin, it gave me a little piece of mind.

I don't have MTHFR, so I'm not sure, but are you taking the Folgard also?

  • I started lovenox at six weeks after the pregnancy was confirmed with u/s.

If your last loss was because of trisomy 16, then that is chromosonal and unrelated to MTHFR or other blood clotting issues.

I think that if you are concerned, I would call your Peri back and talk to him/her a little more about your concerns.

  • I did not start my lovenox shots until 7 weeks, per my peri.  I did take baby asprin until I started the shots.  I have no help for the P4.

  • I didn't start my lovenox injections until week 7. ?I think you're gonna be fine. ?It seems your last loss was because of the trisomy and not a clot or MTHFR related issue. ? I'm so happy for you!?

  • With my first pregnancy I wasn't on p4 right away, but my levels started to drop so they put me on 300mg of oral supplements a day.  With this pregnancy I still had the p4 supplements at home and I started taking them with my first + hpt.  My RE said I could start taking it with my first + beta, but I got a + hpt on saturday and didn't want to go in on the weekend for my beta.  So I just started taking it and I finally stopped at 13 weeks.

I started my lovenox injections with this pregnancy at 11 dpo.  I got a + beta at 11 dpo and they had me start the injections right away.
