First Trimester Testing (done at 12 weeks)

Has anyone had this procedure done?  It's a 2 and 1/2 hour genetic test (with counseling, ultrasound, and other tests). This tests will replace the genetic testing offered at 16 weeks in a few years -  but not all insurances pay for it yet.

I'm having it done Monday.

DH & I decided not to have the test.... My Dr. said allot of couple opt not to have it. We aren't at risk for having children w/something wrong w/them.

yep i had it done...it didn't take 2 1/2 hours though.  it's a ultrasound where they take a bunch of measurements which goes quickly assuming the baby is in the right position, and a simple prick on your finger to take your blood.  the measurements, blood, and maternal health info gets sent to a lab.  and a week later you are given your results for downs syndrome and trisonomy 18 risks.  if your tests are positive, you are offered genetic counseling and further diagnostic testing (cvs or amnio).  if you get this done, you do not have the quad screen, instead you get another blood test 15-16 weeks to check for spina bifida and other things.

yeah, def. not 2 1/2 hrs!! I think it took about 45 minutes for the U/S.  blood work then, then at 14wks too.

I went and had it done too - it gave us peace of mind and it was nice because the u/s was a lot more thorough than a regular one.  We also met with a genetics counselor who went through both of our family histories with us.

I had it too.  Went just as described.

They told me it would be 2 hrs because of the counseling, but they told me that I wouldn't have to do it.  I think the counseling is reserved for those with high risk factors or those whose other genetic tests showed a problem (like testing positive for CF), but I don't know for sure.
