1st job interview tomorrow in a LONG time....eeek!

I posted this on Parenting also...

Long story short....I have been a SAHM for about 2.5 years almost.  I have been thinking of going back to work.  We do ok financially, but we have to go without a lot of things that we both want.  The h has been under LOTS of stress with this economy, he builds houses.  So, I have been looking, sort of just when I think about it.  Anyway, this job popped up that is right what I used to do, it is in my field, and the pay is excellent.  I had a phone type interview yesterday, and have an interview tomorrow.  I am so nervous.  About the interview, about the possibility of this life changing event, about possibly leaving my kids, everything!

The job is a re-compete for a program with the Air Force, I would be the PM.  They have already submitted the proposals and the contract award will happen right before Christmas.  So - they want to have the PM position filled prior to award, but if they do not get the contract, there essentially is no job.  So, there are lots of if's out there.

Anyway - please give me some pointers because it has been a LONG time since I have interviewed.  I worked for my last company for 5 years before the kids came along.

It is still appropriate to wear a suit, right? Just making sure that is still the norm.  Help a girl out!! :)

  • Congrats on landing the interview! Just remember that you will have time to think about any job offers and can plan it out w/ DH. Yes, suits are good. I also always bring my portfolio (writing samples, extra copy of resume, etc.) and a pad to write down notes. GL! You'll be great.

  • Definitely wear a suit, and bring copies of your resume.  Good luck!
  • Take some advise from a recruiter... wear a suit and bring copies of the resume. But don't forget to research the position, the company and walk in with some great questions. At the end of the day, you never know what they are going to ask you. Have a good 90 second commercial about yourself and why you are there and other than that just be yourself that you will shine!

     Good luck!

  • wear a suit.  obviously, talking points about your expertise and what you'll bring to the project.  be prepared to explain the "void" in your resume for the past 2.5 years and how you've kept abreast of things even tho you sahm. always have 1-2 questions in the back of your head when they ask u if u have any ?s.
