Boston Babies

ak76

HI there,

My name is Maureen and I noticed you go to NWH for fertility. I have a appt in December with Dr Shifren and am wondering if you can give me any feedback regarding the center and also any info you can give for our first appt.  This is my very first experience with fertility and am feeling a bit nervous.  Thanks for your help.

  • Hi Maureen,

I have been seeing Dr. Shifren at NWH since July.  I really like the center and everyone who works there.  The staff is super friendly and gets to know you quickly.  It really feels very personalized.  Beware: Dr. Shifren talks fast and goes thru the process quickly.  I was OK with it, since I already had a basic understanding of fertility stuff and initial procedures, but DH was like "WHOA!! Wait and minute, I have a million questions." He thought she went way too fast.  On that note, make sure you write down quesions you have before going to the appointment.  Once you actually get there, you probably won't remember everything and kick yourself later.  Although, the nurses are excellent and can answer almost any question you have.  To be honest, you mostly talk with the nurses anyway.  I have only meet with Dr. Shifren twice, once for the initial consult and after initial testing to make up a game plan.  Also, definitely plan on your husband/partner being there.  It makes the process go a little faster since they can do his initial bloodwork, etc. that day not to mention it makes him more involved in the process.

Hope this helps.  I live in Walpole and have met one other person who goes to NWH.  We were thinking of starting a small group to get together once in a while to talk about everything.  Let me know if you are interested.  My personal email is Nancybp0274@aol.com.

  • Hi Maureen,

I see Dr. Ashby and think that she is really awesome! She explains everything and doesn't rush through the protocols. The center is really great. All the nurses are very friendly and will answer all of your questions, even when you call them five times a day! I'm having a good experience. I have done one IUI, and one IVF, and am waiting to start my next IVF in Dec/Jan. I recommend the doctors and center completely. I've looked at some statistics about the different fertility centers and doctors and I know that NW (w/Brigham&Women's for IVF) is one of the top in the country. Good luck! ?
