Potty training - how long do you let DC sit on the potty?

DS is 25 months and we just got him a little potty.  I wanted to wait, but he was literally asking to sit on the potty, so I figured I shouldn't squelch his interest.  Anyway, he loves to sit on his little potty and has peed in there several times.  However, the last several times, he hasn't peed, but just wants to sit there forever!!!  I'm not sure where to draw the line - I want to encourage him and let him have the time he needs, but we also need to move on and not sit on the potty the entire night!!  Any suggestions?

I try to let her sit for as long as she wants because sometimes it does take that long for her to go. She now requests a book while she's sitting there.

I let DD sit for about 20 minutes.  If there is not "progress" we get up and try again later.  Sometimes we bring a book, too.

As long as she wants.  Like XB sometimes she wants a book & we'll give it to her.  Sometimes it's a quick 3 second thing.  Hard to tell which it's going to be lol

as long as she wants...except at bedtime.  She uses it as a stall technique and I will only let her stay 5 min.  SHe goes everynight since putting the bedtime time limit
