I'm super bummed..its my best layer too! I know she was there yesterday evening when I let them out to roam the yard. Each evening when I get home I let them out to eat grass and bugs, and then when it gets dark they all dutifully march into their henhouse and go to sleep. The next morning when the sun starts to come up, they let themselves back out for some more time in the yard, and then before I leave for work I pen them up for the day.
Mr. Skat is pretty sure he saw her when he got up at 6:15 this morning, so it is possible that she's actually been laying somewhere in the yard and so was laying an egg when I was looking for her. I did look around for her for awhile but couldn't immediately find her. I have a lot of bushes and bamboo stands though that I wasn't able to climb up into before going to work. I'm hoping that a) she will be there when I get home this afternoon and b) that we will find where she's been stashing these eggs, darn it!
I hope she's ok.
Re: NBR: One of my chickens is missing. :-(
I have four, Sparty. Two Black Stars, a Barred Rock and the one that's missing is a Rhode Island Red.
Hiya Skat. I didnt know you had chickens either! Do you have any other animals?
**lays out chicken food for the chicken to come back**
Oh no! I hope she comes back. Chickens can be sneaky little things sometimes.
My sister has chickens and they just started laying eggs. I'm totally asking for fresh eggs for Christmas!!
All I can think about is a chicken cartoon with the chickens lining up to walk back to the hen house every night. I think it's a pluto or mickey one. Anyways, I hope your chickie shows up tonight and you find her eggs in the yard.
