I am not a morning person, and have an extremely hard time getting up an extra hour earlier to work out. But after working all day, picking up DS, making dinner, cleaning the kitchen, getting DS bathed and in bed, I am exhausted. Last night I worked out after DS went to bed, but then I found it hard to wind down for bed. Does anyone else have this problem? When do you work out?
Re: When do you find time to work out?
Normally its at 5:30 in the morning - but that was before baby...I am sure I am going to have to adjust - but hopefully I can still have my morning routine the same with it starting at 5:30 or so....it will be up to the baby....also I have a pretty flex job - so I can get into my office anywhere between 7 and 9 and considered on time.
i used to be a 7 day a week workout person...running, gym, yoga something.. but now.. ugh sooooo hard to find the time.
i can't bring myself to get up any earlier then i already do to get ready for the day.. that is 5:30am. so i mostly workout after i put her down.. by around 9pm.. sucks and its usually just a video or a short gym workout.. i now try and really make my weekend workout killer and long and during the week i'm happy if i get 2-3 days in..
I am working it in 4 days a week. Not in the AM, but right after dinner.
Can your DH give DS a bath while you workout? I know it stinks missing baths but on the nights you dont workout you can do the bath. Or have DH cook while you maybe get part of your workout in.
If I dont finish the workout on the first try I come back later and try to get it in.
Well DH is in dental school right now, so he is not home very often in time to bathe DS. He usually gets home around 7:30-8PM and DS goes to bed at 8PM. I think I just need to suck it up and get up in the morning and work out. That way I will be undisturbed (but missing my nice, warm, comfy bed).
I guess I'm lucky that I'm a morning person... I get up at 4:40am 3x a week during the week and do my elliptical or a video. We have Fit TV on our cable and I Tivo a couple shows on there to get a variety into my workout.
I'm usually so exhausted by the time both kids are in bed that I can't even think about working out at night... I'm usually in bed by 10pm so I can get up early.
I've found that once I'm in the routine it's not too bad... figure out what time works best for you and try to stick to it for 8-10 days and see if you can get a routine going.
good luck!!! It's not easy and I try not to beat myself up if I flip to my 5:30am alarm (that's my "sleeping in" time if I don't work out at 4:40)
And like PP, I used to work out all the time, at least 5 times a week. Not so much anymore
Hey don't feel bad for not working out. My rules are:
1. If I can do everything I want to do and need to do I am fit enough.
2. DS *is* a workout. I do play with him in the park for an hour a day (in daylight savings this is easy) and that IS my workout.
3. I am not a morning person. It is about priorities. I would rather have the sleep, I feel I'm lacking that and not exercise these past 2 years.
4. Not working out, or even not being fit, doesn't make you a bad person. In fact the nicest people I know are those whose priority on working out is very very low.?
i give myself 3 days out of the week for a formal work out that is friday, sat, and sunday....dh and i have to alternate....or ds goes to gma's house while we work out...the rest of the week....i do abs...one evening....and push ups the other evening....
