I got my first check for being on maternity leave and it is $150.00 more a week than i get at work I was excited. My girlfriend who just went off leave told me she got paid more too. In CA they base it off last years income and it's 55% of you income before taxes and 7 days a week not 5 days. This is great!!! Now not only am I not stessed about money while I'm on leave, but now I can buy may baby extra stuff he needs.

Keep in mind - if your regular paycheck deducts insurance payments, that deduction isn't being taken out of your STD check.  You may have to pay it back to the company on your return.

Just a friendly warning - I have to do that and I didn't realize it until I was about to go on leave

That's great! My husband got the same deal-but under "bonding with a child," and it's only a few hundred dollars less than his take home pay.   Not too bad!!

Agree with the pp...you may need to write your company a check for health insurance premiums, 401(k) deductions, etc.  I'd check with your HR dept to be sure.
