Is it too soon for maternity pants?

I am wearing jeans today and they are killing me.  I was just wondering when everyone else is/will make the transition.  TIA

Re: Is it too soon for maternity pants?

  • I'm staying in regular pants as long as possible.  That being said, I only have 2 pairs that still fit me.  I can't do a rubberband trick on most of my dress pants.

I wear dresses A LOT right now.  & I use a rubberband when I wear jeans.

  • My jeans were on the tight side before my bfp so now with the bloat they're pretty much unbearable.  Maternity clothes are still way too big on me though.  I refuse to buy normal clothes in a bigger size so if I feel like I really must wear jeans I wear the maternity ones and hold them up with a tummy sleeve.

  • I still wear my regular pants with the Bella Band. Not the Tummy Sleeve, not the Belly Band...the Bella Band.
  • I hear ya Blair.  I am down to 2 pair also and I think this will be the last time I wear the pair I have on today.  So, down to one doesn't work too well.  I don't really want to move to maternity pants yet, but I may not have much of a choice before too long.
  • There is this great thing called the Belly Belt (i got mine on Ebay) that attaches to your Current pants AND dress pants. It is this revolutionary thing! I love it, sadly i already had to use it on a pair of jeans this weekend due to this horrible bloating! It adapts to whatever size you are and even comes with diffent color panels to adapt to whatever pants you are wearing.

    Hope that helped!

  • I have been wearing mat pants for about a week with my bigger fitting pants too, I find that the low rise (not a full belly fit) are really nice with the bloat.  With that said today I am wearing mat pants with the belly pannel and so far so good, but realistically they will not last all the way through pg, I am ok with that, they were $7 at old navy.com.  Like you I couldn't satnd the bloat!  I would rather be comfortable.
  • i transitioned about a week ago into materinty pants. i had gained some extra weight before i got PG so my regular pants were already tight. however my materinty pants are still too big for me, so I am wear my bella band with some of them. but it's much more comfortable then being stuck in pants that don't fit at all.
  • I have one pair of jeans that still fits and the rest I use a bella band. I refuse to buy a size up in pants. I'm waiting as long as possible to get maternity clothes.

  • My pants are killing me too! They feel so tight and uncomfortable! I think most of it is bloating, although my stomach feels like it is growing (already!) I bought some black streach pants that I could get by with wearing to work until I could get some maternity clothes. If you are uncomfortable, by all means, get maternity clothes! Why suffer? :-) I'm just glad I'm not the only one who doesnt like clothes now!
  • I just bought 2 pairs are Ann Taylor Loft b/c they were on sale and I had a coupon. I didn't think I'd be wearing them for a little, but when I couldn't find pants that fit me this morning, I decided to wear them with my bella band. They are so comfy!!!
  • I broke down and bought some maternity pants. With some regular pants I just leave them unbuttoned/zipped and wear a long shirt to cover and flesh. My MIL is going to take a few pair of my pants and enclose a preggers band in them.  It's just deciding which ones I want to  loose....
  • Since I can't wear jeans to work and many of my pants have those metal slide closures I had to buy new pants last night. I ended up getting a couple pairs of maternity pants from Old Navy that have the stretchy panels in the side.

I was desperate for some pants to wear over my bloat. Sure it's early but what else can you do, you know?

  • Jarbaby, you have given me hope.  I'm hoping to pull the reg jeans/Bella Band as loooong as possible.  So far I'm having no troubles fitting into my normal clothes.

  • I have a few pair of maternity pants but the belly part has stretched enough to make them all too big. I REFUSE to buy more for 4-5 weeks...
  • i've been wearing them for the last 3 weeks... i'm so bloated I can't stand my normal jeans.
  • I second the Bella Band! it's awesome. Also, I bought some maternity pants already and had some from my first child. But these new ones I got at the resale store, I found almost ALL GAP pants for $15 each! And they are still in style! I was excited, I got like 5 pair! And the good thing about those is they fit pretty well already, although I may grow out of this size, it's the size I wore before getting pg. Just wear whatever makes you comfortable!
  • I was rubber banding my pants at 8 weeks, and made the switch to maternity pants at 12 weeks which was the best decision i ever made. they are SOOO comfy and nowadays they don't look like maternity pants. I say go for it!

  • I'm all about the bella band right now. I can't stand the discomfort and the bloat. I had surgery on an ovary a year ago and my ab muscles never fully recovered, so it's just impossible to suck it in now! I'm trying to hold out until the 2nd trimester to buy maternity jeans. Lucky enough to wear scrubs at work though :)

  • I don't understand waiting around in uncomforatable pants for some "magic" week when it's suddenly OK to wear maternity. No one is judging you. If your clothes are uncomfortable, get some maternity pants.

  • I only have 1 pair of jeans that fit me well right now, and 1 pair of dress pants. My friend gave me all her maternity clothes, so I have been wearing the dress maternity pants to work since I don't have a bella band. I always wore my pants pretty snug, so the moment the bloat showed up I had a muffin top.
  • My pants were already getting tight before my bfp, and with all this bloat, it just sucks. I broke down last night and pulled out my old maternity jeans to go to the mall/movies in. Soooo much better!!

  • I definitely have to get a bella band.  My jeans fit but I can't button them up!
  • I think I will have to make the switch soon. My pants are fine in the morning, but after every meal, I'm exploding. I think I may try the rubber band trick and see how much longer that will hold me.
  • im lucky that I can wear either dress clothes or scrubs to work (I work in a hospital). Lately I've been wearing a lot of scrubs because they are drawstring and much more comfortable than dress pants. I'm only 6 weeks but I am very bloated. I drink tons of water and steer clear of the sodium aside from a few crackers when I'm really feeling queesy. I haven't tried the rubber band trick yet but I have started to unbutton my jeans becuase they are very constricting. This weekend I'm supposed to go to the Maryland football game. I better stock up on rubber bands so that I don't have to keep buttoning/unbuttoning my pants. I'm so classy.

  • depending on the number of pregnancies you've had - you may end up having to wear maternity clothes earlier.  however, seeing as your 11 wks and your clothes are no longer fitting you comfortably, it's time for some maternity clothes!
