I have skin cancer

I've had this little bump on my eyelid for years. I finally remembered to show it to a dermatologist a few months ago, and I could tell from the look on her face that it was cancer. She sent me off to an opthamlogic plastic surgeon, and it took 2.5 months to even get in there. I had the biopsy done last week (which was fuucking barbaric), and just got the results today. It's basal cell carcinoma. If you have to get cancer, this is the kind to get because it almost never metastasizes, and it's nearly 100% curable. So in that sense I'm lucky.

Because of where it is, I have to go through a big rigamarole to get it removed. It's on my lower eyelid, on the eyeball side of my eyelashes. Getting it removed will take out 1/3 of my lower eyelid (horizontally), and getting my eyelid reconstructed is going to be pretty involved, using tissue from the side of my face. My doctor said that my eye will never look the same again, and it won't match my other eye.

The procedure hasn't been scheduled yet, and I'm seeing another plastic surgeon for a 2nd opinion in a couple of weeks... to see if she agrees with the first doc on the best way to reconstruct my eye. I'm hoping she'll say that she can make my eye look the same after the surgery.

I'm so sad, and scared.
