Success after IF

Forgot to take aspirin :(

for a couple days - I'm not on it for anything specific - I just started taking baby aspirin because I thought it could help my lining - after I got pg, I continued the low dose because I heard it can prevent blood clots.

I just realized I forgot to take it for 2 or 3 days - that can't hurt them right?

Re: Forgot to take aspirin :(

  • Does your RE or OB know you are on it? I was told no asprin while pg.

  • I agree with Kittylove. I have heard no aspirin while pregnant. Why would you take it anyways if not told to by a doctor. Do you have a history of blood clots? If not, why take it?
  • I talked to my RE when I was trying - he didn't see any harm as long as I just took the baby aspirin (he thought it didn't make a difference in getting pg). I just never stopped after because I was convinced it helped the blood flow to the lining.

I also read that it can help prevent pre-eclampsia and I already have a borderline blood pressure. I see the OB Thursday and will discuss it with her - forgot to bring it up earlier.

  • damn - now I'm totally paranoid - do you think I hurt the babies by taking it? I saw several studies where they put pregnant women on a low dose  - they couldn't do that if there was potential for harm.

  • I am continuing estrace and baby aspirin until I'm about 8 weeks based on my RE.  However, I don't think you should continue taking the aspirin until your doctor knows about it.  It probably won't hurt, but they should know your medications.
  • I was also told no asprin...

maybe call the OB tomorrow and ask?

I would call the OB in the am and ask about it. While I don't think you have done any harm, I am NOT an OB or DR.

  • I am on baby aspirin due to multiple m/cs and a clotting disorder, so it *can* be safe in pregnancy.  I don't think you've hurt anything by taking it so far, but ditto PPs - you should check with your OB asap, possibly before continuing to take it.

  • Also low dose aspirin (baby aspirin=81 mg) is okay as prescribed.  The regular aspirin (325 mg) is the one you definitely should not be on (unless prescribed of course).
  • Will call the OB tomorrow - damn.....

I'm worried to stop and to continue.

  • definitely not on 325 mg - just the 81 mg kind. I have a family history of heart disease too - figured it might help that front too (even though I'm still pretty young).

Anyway - you're right, I'll call the OB tomorrow and double check on what she thinks - I don't have a diagnosed clotting issue (though I'm not super bleedy on the aspirin either) - but I'll stop until I get the OB's ok.

  • I was on baby aspirin post ER/ET for IVF, but my RE had me stop at 10 weeks. He didn't want me continuing after that point and my OB asked at my first appt. to check that I had stopped.  I'd just be sure to ask your OB at your upcoming appt.

  • I was on baby aspirin for my entire second pregnancy because I had pre-eclampsia during my first pg.  I did get pre-e the second time anyway, but it was controlled on bedrest and my OB had me continue the baby aspirin up until the day of my c-section.
