Working Moms

Need a nanny...and advice.

I'm starting a FT job working from home beginning in January. My first child is due in February. After maternity leave I hire a nanny for in-home child care 20-30 hours a week. Where do I begin looking for someone? Any nanny networks/website I should know about?

Re: Need a nanny...and advice.

  • We interviewed 2 nanny placement agencies in our area, and found our wonderful nanny that way.  We were looking for part-time, so that was really the only way to do so.

  • We found ours at https://www.enannysource.com/ .  There is a fee to join, but it's way less than the agencies, who wanted around $1500 up front in our area.  There is also care.com, which I hear is a great resource.

GL!  We needed a full time nanny to start in Jan/Feb and this is about the time we started looking, which worked out perfectly for us.  So I think you have some time, but the above sites can give you great ideas about who is in your area, costs, and ideas for things to ask during the interview.

  • Honestly, you need to do a full on blitz.  We talked to everyone, looked at nanny agencies (sent us crap) and nanny.com places (never found the right fit) and Craigslist (finally found her).  We kept our nanny for 2 years and recently transitioned DS into preschool.  When we have DC#2 we will get a nanny again and I am not looking forward to the search.  It is worth it when you find the right person though!
