30 oz milk for 17mo way too much???

He barely eats, but he loves his milk.  Do I need to drastically cut down.  I am scared because at least I know he gets calories, protien and calcium.

  • yeah it is....he should only be drinking about 16oz....he's relying on milk to fill him up.

  • At her 18 mo visit, our ped said 15-24 tops. Maybe if you offered milk after meals he would be hungrier? At this age I think he needs the more rounded nutrients offered in food.

  • WAY too much.

My doc said 16 oz.Your ds is filling up on liquids and not eating enough. Cut the milk and I am sure that his food intake will increase.

  • Yup.  Too much.  I know it's rough, but what about offering water between meals and just milk with meals.  Our pedi said 12oz was plenty and 24 max - 3 8oz cups with meals.  Is he ready for regular cups?  Our pedi also recommended moving over to those for milk rather than sippies.  He'll eat more if he's hungry but he's not hungry because he's drinking all that milk.  The calcium and protein are good for him, but he needs a balanced diet the same as you and I.  Sorry!
  • yup that's to much Pedi said at DS 1 yr. appointment 16-20oz max.. most nutrition should come solids..  Just keep try new things or keep feeding the things he likes most
  • does he have problems with solids?  (texture aversions, etc).

  • My DS is like yours...loves milk!  His pedi actually said that up to 30 ounces is ok but she said to try and not go past that.  Lately, he's sort of been weaning himself!
  • too much whole milk can cause anemia (decreased iron) in a baby/toddler.  So yes 30 ounces is too much!
