Pregnant after a Loss

do internals hurt you?

I've always heard internals described as mildly uncomfortable. Well, I had my first today and holy crap. If that's someone else's "mildly uncomfortable," they need to start my epidural about...now.

So-- am I a giant wimp or do others find internals a little more on the painful side as well?

The good news was that I'm already 1 1/2 cm and soft, with baby still up pretty high. I'm hoping for at least another week or two of baking in there, but after that, she can come on out whenever she's ready!

  • I find them torture!! However, I am hoping to get one tonight so I can find out if I am close....

  • yeah, they're painful, but stripping of the membranes is worse. I felt like I was crawling up the table when they did that!  just remind yourself so you're prepared that labor is going to be worse. That's what I keep telling myself! Crying
  • internals hurt me something fierce!  the dr. said, "okay, it's going to feel like i'm picking your brain..." yowza! my best friend used to go to my dr and has since changed insurances and has a new dr.--she said her new dr is much more gentle and it didn't hurt at all. i always thought that maybe it was just my doc's lack of finesse. :)
  • I had to have one last week and it hurt a lot.  They've never hurt before, but this was bad. It surprised me, but the nurse said pregnancy makes everything more sensitive and they can be painful. She was right!

  • I am glad that I am not alone in these.
  • Help an early pg girl out... what exactly do they do in an internal?  I hate pap smears and have been told I have a "irritable cervix" so I'm anticipating pain.  Do they just feel around a lot?  It doesn't sound like fun!

Yeah, they feel around a lot, but it's further in/up there than I've ever felt anything before!
